Knights in the Nightmare (2)

Ryan admitted that he had underestimated the Nightmare Knights of Grand Duke Mayers's household. If he had not been strong enough himself, he would not have been able to defeat them within a double nightmare.

"Are they planning to kill me openly now?"

Killing intent flashed in Ryan's eyes. The next day, he wrote a letter to the Imperial Capital, questioning Grand Duke Mayers's intent to kill him.

"The Black Swan Assassins want to kill me, and now Grand Duke Mayers wants to kill me too?"

"Are the Empire's nobles still nobles at all? Has noble honor already been abandoned?"

"Ryan Clayton swears in the name of his bloodline that he will never submit without a fight. If the Black Swan Assassins try to kill me, I will kill the Black Swan Assassins. If Grand Duke Mayers wishes to kill me, then Frozen Earth Territory will go to war with Mayers!"

"No one has decreed that a Baron may die at the hands of a Grand Duke, nor has anyone decreed that a Grand Duke cannot die at the hands of a Baron."

"Kill me, or be killed by me. This is Ryan's declaration of war against Mayers."

Ryan sent out the letter and paid no further attention to it.

What kind of nonsense tactic was this? He was going to flip the table and drag everything out into the open.

The Empire's nobles had not expected Ryan to be so resolute. They were stunned by his decision. Grand Duke Mayers did not know, but the other nobles were somewhat panicked.

They did not want war to begin.

"Baron Ryan, your words are too severe. We are enraged that someone attempted to assassinate you, Baron, but we still cannot be certain that it was Grand Duke Mayers. I believe that,
