The man held a middle-aged man in his left hand. The middle-aged man was being strangled by the neck and was clearly half-dead already. He desperately pried at the madman's hand before him and said with great difficulty, "Muratake... I'm begging you, don't kill me. Everything before was a misunderstanding. I apologize to you!"
"Hahahahaha..." Muratake was the name of this six-foot-three burly man. He looked coldly at the man dangling like a chick and said, "Regretting it now? Too bad... it's already too late!"
Yang Xiao saw everything clearly from below. This was probably what they called an escalating conflict. The conflict between the two might not originally have been serious enough to become a life-or-death grudge, but over time, it had left an indelible mark on the man named Muratake, leading to this incident.
Sometimes, the difference between Buddha and demon lay in a single thought. So much could happen in that instant, and Muratake had clearly chosen the demon.
"Listen up, whoever's up there! Put down the hostage and surrender! Your sentence may be reduced, otherwise you will be shot on sight!" The Police Department had arrived. They evacuated the crowd while negotiating with the criminal.
Yang Xiao also spotted several Pro Heroes, though he did not recognize any of them. He could only tell they were Pro Heroes from their costumes.
Muratake was clearly utterly disappointed in the man before him. He did not say another word and raised his hand, throwing the middle-aged man down from the second floor.
The Police Department officers and Pro Heroes thought the criminal had surrendered, and all of them breathed a sigh of relief. One Pro Hero rushed forward, intending to catch the middle-aged man below.
"Rat-a-tat-tat-tat~"
"Pfft!"
Muratake had no intention of surrendering. As the middle-aged man fell, he raised the machine gun in his right hand. Its muzzle flashes riddled the man with bullets, turning him into a human sieve.
The rushing Pro Hero was hit several times as well. He spat out blood and crashed into a stone pillar.
"Nobihito, are you okay?" another Pro Hero shouted anxiously. Nobihito was his colleague, and they had always gotten along well. If Nobihito died because of this incident, he would go insane.
Yang Xiao had no intention of rushing out to fight the criminal. First, he did not want to draw attention to himself. Second, the Police Department and Pro Heroes were already here. What would it mean for him to step in?
There was another point: Yang Xiao had no idea whether his Quirk could withstand the power of bullets. The criminal's Quirk weapon was clearly no ordinary firearm. Hadn't they seen the middle-aged man's body already blasted into pieces?
"You're still standing here. Are you trying to go up there and die?" While Yang Xiao was thinking, a voice suddenly came from behind him. He turned around to see Toga Himiko bent over with a half-smile on her face. Their faces were less than four inches apart.
"Hey... why are you so close to me?" Toga Himiko only realized then that when Yang Xiao turned around, he had nearly bumped into her face.
"Don't make such a fuss. Besides, you were the one sneaking around behind me." Yang Xiao immediately raised a finger to his lips, telling Toga Himiko to keep her voice down.
Toga Himiko's face reddened as she took several steps back. She really wanted to beat Yang Xiao up.
"Shoot him dead!" the Pro Hero roared. The Police Department officers had clearly realized the severity of the situation. Someone had died, so they could directly shoot the criminal on sight. After all, he had overwhelming firepower.
"Surround him. If you get the chance, shoot him on sight!" The leading officer waved his hand, and dozens of fully armed police officers began closing in on him in a fan-shaped formation.
"Don't any of you fucking move! Look carefully... I've got hostages behind me!" Muratake turned the machine gun in his right hand toward the dozen or so hostages, men and women, young and old alike.
"Mom, I'm scared!" A child no older than seven or eight sobbed in his mother's arms. The mother looked at Muratake in terror, but she still comforted her child in a steady voice. "It's okay, sweetheart. The Pro Heroes and police are here to save us. It'll be okay."
"There really are hostages..." The officer leading the team's expression changed. This truly made things difficult. If their actions caused heavy casualties, the impact on society would be immense, and the Police Department and Pro Heroes would face public backlash.
"Ahahaha... Matsuda, Matsuda, you piece of trash, I finally killed you! You thought you were so smart, so high and mighty?" Once Muratake saw that the Police Department and Pro Heroes did not dare act rashly, he began cursing loudly. "You're all trash! In front of my Quirk, you get turned straight into minced meat. That feeling must be wonderful, hahahaha!"
"He really is a vile criminal..." The Pro Hero gritted his teeth. The criminal had clearly lost his mind. If they acted recklessly, they would definitely provoke his urge to kill.
"Nobihito, are you okay?" After thinking it through, the remaining Pro Hero went straight to Nobihito's side. Two medical staff members were beside Nobihito, stopping his bleeding.
"Yamato Isami... if I don't make it, please take care of my mo—"
"Don't talk nonsense!" The Pro Hero named Yamato Isami cut Nobihito off. "How could anything happen to you? Don't worry."
After saying that, Yamato Isami looked at the medical staff. "Carefully carry him out. Remember to stay out of the criminal's line of sight."
The medical staff nodded. After placing Nobihito on a stretcher, they left. Fortunately, the criminal was somewhat delirious at the time, intoxicated in his own world, and did not notice Nobihito and the two medical staff leaving.
Yang Xiao did not know what to say. The Pro Hero who had been shot seemed terribly inexperienced. In that situation, rushing in to catch someone without using his Quirk was bound to get him injured.
Yang Xiao did not know what Nobihito's Quirk was. He only knew Nobihito was reckless. Maybe he had been too eager to save someone, but he could not ignore the criminal's combat power.
"Are you leaving or not?" Toga Himiko stared at Yang Xiao. If this guy refused to leave, she was not going to keep trying to persuade him. No one could stop someone determined to die.
"Of course I'm leaving. Definitely." Yang Xiao nodded, then pointed at the second floor of the waiting room. "We'll leave once his attention is drawn elsewhere."
"You two kids shouldn't be staying here."
Just as Toga Himiko was about to grab Yang Xiao by the ear, a bright, refreshing voice rang out. Yang Xiao and Toga Himiko turned to see golden hair, bean-like black eyes, and a powerfully built body.
"L-Lemillion?" Yang Xiao was startled. Why was Mirio Togata here?
That was right, the person who had arrived was indeed Lemillion, the pillar of the third years and one of the Big Three of U.A. No, he should still be a second-year now. Mirio Togata would only be a third-year after Yang Xiao enrolled.
Regardless, the current Mirio Togata was a rising star with astonishing strength. Was he in Kanagawa for a Workplace Experience, or was there another reason?
"You know me?" Lemillion smiled, revealing a row of pearly white teeth.
