Background / History
Illyasviel is first introduced at Einzbern Castle as the completed Holy Grail’s vessel. Hadon states that she is an Android carrying the Grail and is fated to die after enough Heroic Spirits are gathered. Even at this stage, she is noted for her noble and elegant bearing. 2
Early accounts depict her as a homunculus who becomes Aozaki Touko’s maid and is delighted by the position. She later insists that Touko did not create her: Touko chose her as a wife shortly after she emerged from a cultivation tank. 5 31 Touko publicly introduces Illyasviel as her wife to the Aozaki family. 46
Later accounts instead identify Illya as Touko and Irisviel’s daughter, raised with an ordinary education rather than intensive magus training. Touko deliberately delays exposing her to the magecraft world until her values are stable, while ensuring that her magical potential can be developed later. 172 205 Illya herself initially considers her family ordinary and is unsettled to discover their connections to Magic Users, Dead Apostles, Mystic Codes, and the Holy Grail War. 212
Appearance
Illya is a silver-haired, red-eyed young girl whose appearance is repeatedly described as delicate and unusually beautiful. Her transformed forms are far more imposing than her ordinary schoolgirl presentation. 281 309
- Silver hair and red eyes. 281
- Usually presents as an elementary-school-aged girl in ordinary clothes or a school uniform. 231 309
- Her first Magical Girl form includes pink Lolita-style clothing and a magic wand. 200
- Her Fallen Angel form features black Lolita clothing, black wings, and a silver sword. 257
- Her uncontrolled evolution turns her into a radiant humanoid figure emitting white light. 264 378
Personality
Illya is polite, curious, and compassionate. When first exposed to magecraft, she eagerly asks questions despite being frightened by its dangers, and she worries about having to fight people she cares about in the Holy Grail War. 200 204 She is notably patient with her magic wand, even attempting to teach it how to write when it fails to complete her homework. 203
Although she is initially naïve and easily flustered, repeated combat forces her to become calmer and more decisive. She adapts to being pursued by Heroic Spirits, refuses to kill a defeated enemy unnecessarily, and develops a willingness to confront threats alone when others are endangered. 223 280 291
Her strongest motivation is protecting others as people rather than tools. She rejects the idea of sacrificing Miyu as a wish-granting device and promises to seek another solution. 293 303
Abilities & Skills
Independent Life Tree
Illya inherited an independent Life Tree system from Touko. It responds to her desires and can evolve her capabilities toward a state comparable to a Divine Spirit. 237 245
- Can grant abilities corresponding to her needs, such as enhanced combat ability, flight, and greater physical power. 245
- Allows rapid adaptation during battle; while rampaging, she reproduces Gorgon’s Petrifying Mystic Eyes after observing them. 378
- Its unchecked evolution can overwrite her human consciousness with a higher-dimensional one, causing “Illya” as an individual to cease to exist. 245
- Her original blue magic wand was created in part to suppress this power and prevent a world-altering crisis. 280
Magical Girl Transformations
Illya uses Soul Gems and multiple Magic Staffs to transform into Magical Girl forms. Her transformations can be completed instantly in active combat. 200 298
- Ruby serves as her primary red Magic Staff and Magical Girl Mystic Code. 280 281
- She can draw on Rose Maiden mana; Suigintou’s authorization grants her Fallen Angel form. 245 247
- She seeks the mana of all seven Rose Maidens to ultimately transform into “Alice.” 205
- Combining Ruby with Suigintou’s power produces an exceptionally strong stacked transformation. 291
- Stacked transformations impose severe stamina costs and are only sustainable for a short time. 292
Holy Grail War Mastery
As Einzbern heir, Illya is automatically selected by the Holy Grail and receives Command Spells. 201 204
- Summons Heracles as Berserker, an overwhelmingly powerful Heroic Spirit armed with a massive stone axe. 222
- Commands Berserker protectively and refuses to order his suicide even when threatened by Remilia’s army. 264
- Uses a Reality Marble to move a battle into a mythical realm. 253
- Can use Command Spells and family resources strategically, including bargaining with Ereshkigal through debt relief and magical funding. 252
Combat Skill and Tactics
Illya’s dream-game experiences and real battles give her substantial awareness despite her age. 187 280
- Evades Archer’s projected arrows through luck, body control, and reflexes. 244
- Uses wind magecraft to disperse smoke, allowing her to escape an ambush by a mana-poisoned dagger wielder. 223
- Fights with two Magic Staffs as dual weapons, using them to block Medusa’s chain blades. 281
- Defeats Caster alone in under a minute after transforming and borrowing Suigintou’s power. 291
- Employs traps, surprise attacks, and negotiation rather than relying only on direct force. 251 252 254
Heroic Spirit Manifestation
Touko temporarily removes Illya from the timeline, allowing her to answer summons as a Heroic Spirit-like spiritual body. 320 354
- Retains the abilities of her original body while manifested. 354
- Destruction of the summoned body does not directly harm her main body outside the timeline. 354
- This state permits otherwise fatal or self-destructive tactics. 354 380
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ruby — Red Magic Staff and primary Magical Girl Mystic Code. 280 281
