Watching The Lizard relentlessly hammer at him with punch after punch, tail whips and kicks all included, Black Super's temper flared as he parried. He wasn't getting paid to put on this act; back on the streets of Times Square in New York, he got ten bucks a punch for being a punching bag.
Though his palm could not fully cover the Lizard's mutated fist, his grip strength alone was enough to clamp down on the back of the fist and the knuckles, leaving him unable to break free. With his temper rising, Black Super seized the Lizard's incoming fist.
His right fist trapped, Curt Connors wore an incredulous expression. Then the man in black slammed three punches into him in succession—his abdomen, jaw, and chest—directly crippling The Lizard's ability to resist.
Yet Black Super's violence triggered another dormant element in Curt Connors's blood.
Cells mutated by gamma rays had always remained inside Curt Connors's body. His rejection response, however, showed that his body had constantly been trying to kill those mutated cells and restore itself to normal.
This was also the main reason Curt Connors had suffered from migraines and phantom limb pain all this time.
Anger stimulated the brain's sympathetic nervous system, causing the adrenal glands and pituitary gland to secrete adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol. These hormones stimulated the gamma-mutated cells and switched them on.
If Curt Connors had merely been an ordinary human, the mutation would have produced what were called "cancer cells." Depending on the circumstances, they could cause incurable illnesses such as brain tumors or leukemia, eventually leading to death.
But he was a Lizard who had received transplanted lizard regenerative gene fragments and undergone a physical mutation. Anger replaced the genetic fragments, while the cells exposed to gamma radiation developed in an indescribable direction.
