Background & History

Captivity and escape

Henry was subjected to experimentation and torture at a Russian research institute. The experience left him emotionally hardened, suspicious of institutions, and unwilling to accept the idea that immense power creates an automatic duty to save others 30 562.

The institute’s personnel remain a major unresolved part of his past. After obtaining a report on those connected to his experimentation, Henry identified twenty-eight remaining targets or “pending matters,” despite insisting that he did not want revenge to define him 562.

Alaska and Hollywood

After reaching Alaska, Henry sought ordinary work aboard a king-crab boat. Old John and Polack introduced him to Captain George Jefferson III, who hired him onto the Annie 21 after recognizing his unusual physical solidity 12. Henry later completed four Bering Sea crab-fishing trips without seasickness 57.

He moved to Los Angeles and registered with the Screen Actors Guild. His early acting work consisted of brief, dialogue-free background roles, prop-moving, and physically demanding scenes on low-budget productions 45. He joined Demon Fighter as a villainous submariner extra, repeatedly performing fight scenes and deaths aboard the USS Missouri 60 64.

Henry ultimately abandoned a serious Hollywood acting pursuit after agents told him that his appearance lacked a distinctive on-camera quality and that meaningful success could take decades 262 299.

Tony Stark and the Hepburns

Henry first met Tony Stark during a hostage incident at an elite party. Although hostile toward Tony’s arrogance, he intervened when Tony was about to be shot, beginning a long and volatile relationship defined by arguments, mutual usefulness, and reluctant respect 74 77.

At Katharine Hepburn’s request, Henry demonstrated his bulletproof body by allowing a bodyguard to shoot his palm. The display led to his recommendation as Audrey Hepburn’s driver, assistant, and bodyguard 86. He later accompanied Audrey on UNICEF missions, managed reports and logistics, and concealed his abilities while she protected his privacy from the media 94 132.

After Audrey’s death, Henry continued serving Katharine as her caregiver, driver, cook, companion, and assistant. His work with her directly motivated his research into dementia and brain aging 210 620.

Technology, criminal networks, and Stark Studios

Henry developed an advanced i486 operating system, became a highly capable hacker, and anonymously contributed Linux packages under the name “CK” 45 132. He also built a concealed technological infrastructure around Sheep Cave Valley Laboratory, including artificial intelligences, surveillance systems, combat armor, and remote-operated support units 502 590 956.

Following an FBI operation connected to Congressman Mike Holden, Henry sought the Continental Hotel’s protection from surveillance and suspicion. He works within its wider criminal-services network but explicitly denies being an assassin 270.

Tony later offered Henry the CEO position at Stark Studios. Henry accepted only after negotiating a limited contract with a free exit and no non-compete restriction 269 314. He eventually resigned when Tony confronted him about deaths tied to Henry’s covert schemes, refusing to let Stark Industries become his legal shield 590.

Appearance

Henry’s appearance is deliberately inconsistent: his Kryptonian control lets him alter facial expressions and make subtle changes that can cause his face to resemble another person’s 10.

  • Often appears ordinary or unremarkable enough that agents considered him unsuitable for starring roles 262.
  • Frequently wears practical suits rather than bespoke clothing, partly because his clothes are regularly damaged by gunfire 555.
  • Has worn glasses despite being able to function without them, preferring not to view the world unclearly 555.
  • Has alternated between a disheveled, bearded appearance and carefully groomed formal presentation 606 757.
  • Can conceal exceptional physical traits until his body is struck, shot, or otherwise tested 86 209.

Personality

Henry is sarcastic, self-interested, and fiercely protective of his autonomy. He rejects attempts by governments, billionaires, criminals, or intelligence agencies to define his responsibilities for him, especially when they expect him to serve as a weapon or bodyguard 88 210 472.

His refusal to call himself a hero does not prevent him from helping people. He protected Tony during the banquet attack, helped save an endangered plane rather than abandon its passengers, and later coordinated more than two days of disaster rescue and evacuation work 77 114 698. He simply insists that help must be his choice rather than an obligation imposed by others.

Henry’s trauma has made him morally inconsistent. He avoids needless violence and dislikes using force merely to dominate people, yet he has committed extensive hacking, covert surveillance, manipulation, and targeted killings when pursuing his own goals 45 563 590. His closest relationships reveal a more patient and compassionate side, particularly in his care for Katharine Hepburn and his loyalty to people who have shown him genuine kindness 620 740.

Abilities & Skills

Kryptonian Physiology

Henry possesses superhuman physical capabilities that he normally restrains to avoid attention.

  • His strength, speed, and bodily control exceed ordinary human limits; athletic competition is primarily a matter of deciding how much to hold back 10.
  • He can fly and has secretly carried a small plane, though he keeps both abilities hidden 132.
  • He can cross vast distances at super-speed and uses accelerated movement for precision construction and emergency travel 720 1212.
  • His extraordinary appetite accompanies his physiology and creates practical difficulties in daily life 12 620.

Steel Body

Henry’s body is exceptionally durable and functions as a passive defensive ability.

  • A handgun bullet striking his palm left no injury 86.
  • Bullets ricochet from his body; attackers have injured themselves by punching him 209.
  • He can withstand sustained gunfire while withholding retaliation, though ricochets can endanger bystanders 479.
  • His durability does not make him reckless: he remains concerned about stronger weapons and methods designed to exploit Kryptonian weaknesses 74 411.

Super Senses

Henry can perceive details far beyond normal human limits.

  • He can detect enemies through walls and function as a “human-shaped radar” during combat 77.
  • He uses enhanced hearing to overhear private conversations and detect concealed threats, including assassination attempts 73 485.
  • His senses allow him to analyze advanced energy constructs without conventional instruments 411.
  • Losing his eye-based powers reduced his environmental awareness and made sophisticated surveillance equipment more valuable 557 562.

Super Brain

Henry learns, analyzes, and extrapolates at an exceptional rate.

  • He taught himself programming, operating-system design, networking, electronics, and materials-related technology 45.
  • He can quickly understand dense legal, tax, and contractual material while concealing the extent of his intellect 60.
  • He reverse-engineers unfamiliar systems by observing their underlying patterns, including Eternal energy constructs and battle-suit technology 411 1213.
  • His intelligence does not grant unlimited knowledge; he recognizes that complex Eternal abilities require enormous amounts of data and energy to reproduce 1213.

Heat Vision

Henry can emit and precisely control destructive eye-based energy.

  • He used Heat Vision to melt Vibranium and remove impurities during fabrication 421.
  • After losing access to his eye powers, he rehabilitated his control until his precision nearly returned to its former level 1212.
  • He combines Heat Vision, super-speed, and manual shaping to manufacture micron-scale layered components 1212.

Cosmic Energy Analysis

Henry has not mastered Cosmic Energy, but he has learned to imitate the Eternals’ methods of directing it.

  • He understands Eternal powers as energy guided through specific mental patterns, comparable to fixed channels or circuitry 411 1213.
  • He believes he can theoretically reproduce some Eternal abilities if supplied with enough data and energy 1213.
  • He was granted permission to study Eternal battle-suit technology and create battle-suit amulets for Gilgamesh and Makkari 1213.

Hacking and Artificial Intelligence

Henry is an elite hacker and AI developer.

  • He has infiltrated networks, planted worms and backdoors, encrypted his activity, and erased traces from logs 45.
  • He contributed to early Linux development under the “CK” alias 132.
  • He developed Miss A, agricultural AI systems, household robots, and surveillance networks using Sparrow drones 620 956 1162.
  • He refuses to cheat in his AI rivalry with Tony Stark by spying on A.L.B.B.Y.’s underlying logic 620.

Acting and Social Manipulation

Henry’s acting experience is useful beyond film sets.

  • He can convincingly fake pain, panic, injury, and helplessness to make armed opponents waste ammunition or underestimate him 210.
  • He uses etiquette, sarcasm, and calculated self-presentation to resist wealthy and powerful figures without openly provoking them 89 616.
  • He studies psychology, body language, micro-expressions, character motivations, and accents as part of his acting method 299.

Limitations

  • A Green Sun is publicly known as a Kryptonian weakness; Henry also fears that top scientists could develop artificial Kryptonite or anti-Kryptonian technology 411.
  • A Red Sun would remove his abilities and reduce him to an ordinary person, though this is not widely known 411.
  • Henry’s desire to remain inconspicuous often restricts his use of speed, flight, senses, and Heat Vision 132 485.
  • His lack of close family makes direct blackmail difficult, but it also leaves him isolated and distrustful of powerful organizations 210 314.
