While the police were at a loss over the Williamsburg Bridge incident and Oscorp held a press conference, a fierce battle unfolded in the sewers of New York.
Following the clues left behind by the Lizard, Spider-Man entered the sewers and even found the secret laboratory, confirming the Lizard's identity: Professor Curt Connors, senior researcher at Oscorp and visiting professor at Empire State University.
Here, Spider-Man saw the original flaws in the Lizard Serum and the latest research progress.
The original flaws were the shortcomings of the first version of the Regeneration Gene Serum, which Spider-Man, as Peter Parker, had helped Professor Curt Connors create at the Oscorp Research Center alongside his university classmate Gwen Stacy.
In terms of its purpose, this version of the Regeneration Gene Serum had succeeded. It showed signs of restoring severed limbs in test subjects. But it came with severe side effects.
First, the test subjects developed mental issues, becoming irritable and displaying strong violent tendencies. Second, they experienced an extremely intense hunger that drove them to keep eating. It was precisely this hunger that caused the former issue.
The latter was likely related to the nutrients consumed when the regeneration gene took effect and restored severed limbs. Ordinary food intake could not keep up with the consumption during regeneration, so the test subjects would eventually revert to how they had looked before taking the serum, and their regenerated limbs would collapse.
Third, the test subjects showed signs of turning into Lizards...
Professor Curt Connors had been trying to correct these flaws in his sewer laboratory. Yet he had focused only on the first two. The third "flaw" in Spider-Man's eyes seemed to have been forgotten.
Among the research materials on the improvements, Spider-Man even found data on Werewolves and the Vampire Virus.
