War Begins

On March 19, the U.S.-led coalition issued the order to attack.

On March 20, the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division, the 101st Airborne Division, and the 82nd Airborne Division advanced toward Baghdad through the desert northwest of Kuwait.

In southeastern Iraq, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force and the British Expeditionary Force launched a pincer offensive.

These two forces were the main strength of the operation.

In addition, there was a Kurdish force organized by the United States, which defeated the Iraqi Army in the north, as well as countless special operations units striking regular troops and sabotaging strategic points within Iraq.

The Mutant Battalion belonged to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, but its organization did not follow standard Marine Corps structure. It was an irregular reinforced battalion.

Its commander was an ordinary human, Lieutenant Colonel Ray Schoonover, who was also highly capable of leading troops. He was not the sort to sit in his office, give orders to company commanders, and wait for results.

Every company had seen the battalion commander, and nearly every Mutant had shaken his hand and exchanged a few words with him. Some Mutants had even come to regard him as someone to believe in, constantly talking about loyalty to the nation and securing benefits for Mutants.

He was a seasoned old soldier and, naturally, had combat experience. At the very least, he had the Mutant Battalion firmly under his control.

The Mutant Battalion had eight companies beneath it: a headquarters company, a weapons company, and six companies from A to F, totaling around nineteen hundred men. This was because all the Mutant recruits who had enlisted recently had been gathered together.
