Doubts About the Official Operation

After dinner, Henry used checking on the children in the Tribeca District as an excuse to head out again.

He did indeed go check on the children first. With several senior students like Colossus and Shadowcat looking after them, along with veteran X-Man Quicksilver, the children were fairly calm.

Henry gave the senior students a suggestion: find out about each child's family and parents.

If the parents already knew their child was a Mutant and could accept it, then depending on the circumstances, the child could be sent back home instead of being forced to stay here.

Whether they could return to Professor X's school for Mutants afterward depended on whether Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters could reopen. Henry did not dare guarantee that events in this world would unfold exactly as he remembered them.

As for children whose family situations were uncertain, or whose parents could not accept that they were Mutants—in other words, children who had effectively been abandoned by their parents—they should not be sent home. Going back would only cause further harm, both to themselves and others.

Mutant students like Colossus, who had come from far away, would naturally stay. They would remain until Professor X resolved his own troubles and gathered them all again.

Still, no one seemed particularly confident that this would happen. If the school was truly gone, they would have to make other plans.

The only adult they could rely on was Quicksilver, who had been away from X-Men activities for a long time. Even when people asked him questions, this unreliable uncle only inspired a lack of confidence.

So for now, all they could do was take things one step at a time.
