Henry could not help but take this set of mechanical tentacles seriously. At this point in time, setting aside mutated superpowered individuals and sorcerers, these mechanical tentacles were already the pinnacle of weapon-grade machinery.
Yet compared with the four tentacles, what Henry cared about more was the spinal connection device, which allowed the machine to integrate closely with the wearer's nervous system.
This deep connection allowed the tentacles to respond to the wearer's thoughts more quickly, even creating "neural responses" that bypassed the brain. Doctor Octavius had just explained that the mechanical tentacles were equipped with advanced artificial intelligence, while the Neural Inhibitor Chip was meant to prevent the machine's AI from influencing the human brain in turn.
But in Henry's eyes, that bullshit about runaway AI turning Doctor Octopus evil was nothing but a lie. Artificial intelligence had no distinction between good and evil—only between efficiency and inefficiency.
Moreover, given the size of these mechanical tentacles, how advanced could the AI they carried possibly be? Even if it really was advanced, it would already be remarkable if it could merely correct movements under fuzzy control.
The hallucinations Doctor Octopus claimed to hear were most likely just his own subconscious. The side of him suppressed by humanity, morality, and the law did not come from the mechanical tentacles' artificial intelligence.
Humans could use their moral standards and society's laws to draw red lines into an AI's underlying logic, prohibiting it from crossing them. But if those red lines disappeared, the AI would naturally revert to its original decision-making logic.
Take the famous Trolley Problem. Five people lay on one track, while one person lay on another. Which track should the unstoppable train run over?
