Hypnosis Caterpie

After a satisfying meal and some hot water, Yu Hai finally felt his strength returning.

His weakness wasn't entirely due to his cold and fever; hunger played a part too.

He hadn't eaten much since the heavy rain started, only some seaweed, leaving his stomach completely empty.

It was truly a miracle he managed to get through the cold and fever.

As the protein was digested, he felt an inexhaustible surge of energy, and the itchiness in his throat subsided considerably.

After finishing lunch, they started worrying about dinner again.

However, just moments ago, he'd thought of a perfect plan that would both train Poliwag's moves and secure a delicious meal.

"It's decided, Poliwag..."

"Yoyo?" Poliwag tilted its head, unsure what new eccentricity Yu Hai was exhibiting. Still, seeing Yu Hai so happy made it happy too.

"Poliwag, take a break, and then we'll go find a Caterpie. It's our dinner for today," Yu Hai explained to the utterly confused Poliwag.

"Yoyo, yoyo!" Hearing the word "dinner," Poliwag instantly perked up, hopping off the grass and calling out to Yu Hai.

It wasn't just any dinner; the grilled meat they'd just eaten was incredibly delicious, the best food it had tasted in a long time.

"No rush, the sun is still strong. We'll go when it cools down a bit," Yu Hai said, stopping the overly excited Poliwag.

There was still plenty of time in the afternoon, enough to catch another Caterpie. These common Pokémon were everywhere, so there was no need to hurry.

"Yo," Poliwag felt a bit disappointed, its whole body slumping. But then it glanced at the scorching sun outside the shade and the excitement instantly cooled. Going out in this heat would surely turn it into a dried-up tadpole.

While waiting for the sun to weaken after lunch, Yu Hai summoned Poliwag's proficiency panel again.

The only changes in Poliwag's proficiency panel since morning were the increase in its level and experience points, and the steady growth in Chain Slap proficiency, especially after battling a Caterpie that morning.

Later, he planned to use Poliwag's Hypnosis to directly put a Caterpie to sleep and then capture it with a Poké Ball.

Catching a Caterpie was that simple. No flashy battles, no power-ups, no emotional moments of capture.

It could be taken down with just Hypnosis, so why make things complicated?

"Poliwag, can you use Hypnosis?" Yu Hai asked the Poliwag sitting by his hand after confirming his capture plan.

"Yo?" Poliwag didn't react at first. It was only when Yu Hai pointed to the black, swirling pattern on its belly that it understood what he was asking.

Poliwag's Hypnosis was activated by the black, swirling pattern on its belly. The obvious drawback of this method was that one only needed to close their eyes.

As long as one didn't stare directly at the black vortex on Poliwag's belly, they wouldn't be hypnotized.

Besides its belly pattern, Poliwag's eyes could also release Hypnosis in the form of a Hypno Wave.

This method of using Hypnosis was applicable to any Pokémon that could learn the move and had eyes, such as the ever-popular Gastly family, Meowth, Vulpix, Psyduck, and Noctowl, among other non-psychic types.

Once Poliwag understood Yu Hai, it immediately tried to use Hypnosis on him.

"Whoa, whoa, don't use Hypnosis on me! If I get hypnotized, I don't know when I'll wake up..."

Yu Hai stopped Poliwag with a hand as soon as it made a move, not wanting to fall asleep in such a daze.

"Yo," Poliwag felt a little dejected when it was stopped, an emptiness in its heart.

"Don't be discouraged, Poliwag. We'll go find a victim right now to test your Hypnosis," Yu Hai said, noticing Poliwag's sadness. He stood up, patted Poliwag's little blue head, and motioned for it to follow.

After their post-meal rest, the sun was no longer as intense as at noon. They decided to circle the edge of the forest, looking for a lone Caterpie.

He had seen many Caterpie in the past few days, but they had probably all hidden due to the heavy rain.

The previous Caterpie had been caught by chance when it accidentally tried to eat the leaves of a fallen giant tree, and Poliwag happened to find it.

Yu Hai and the little tadpole walked along the edge of the forest for several minutes but found no Caterpie. They did, however, see several Weedle.

But he wouldn't dare eat a Weedle. Weedle were poisonous, and he didn't even want to touch them.

This place was deserted, let alone having any antidotes. If he were bitten or injected by a Weedle, he'd have nowhere to cry and would be done for.

In his past life, he couldn't even withstand snake venom, let alone the toxins of a Beedrill. The stinger on a Beedrill's tail alone was terrifying, and the poison was completely unnecessary.

Imagine a needle as thick as an arm, used to inject elephants, being used on you. Would you scream or just scream?

After searching for several minutes without any sign of Caterpie, the man and the tadpole continued to search along the forest's edge. He didn't dare venture into the forest; it was the domain of Beedrill and Flying-type Pokémon, and going in would be suicide.

Just thinking about Spearow's Flying-type move, Drill Peck, with 80 power.

Thinking about the three large stingers on a Beedrill.

And then imagining drills and heads exploding.

He wouldn't dare enter the jungle even if given a hundred chances. This wasn't a matter of curiosity; it was fear trumping curiosity and occupying the high ground of his intellect.

After continuing to search along the jungle's edge for seven or eight minutes, they arrived at the beach where the Poliwag had been attacked by the Pidgey. They finally found the Caterpie here.

This Caterpie was hiding in a tree hollow, preparing to form a cocoon, meaning it was about to evolve.

The entrance to the tree hollow was also tricky, located on a thick branch, making it incredibly well-hidden.

If he hadn't searched from below, he might not have found this tree hollow at all. This hollow was clearly a nest dug by the Caterpie specifically to defend against Flying-type Pokémon. If Flying-type Pokémon flew over the canopy, they wouldn't see the hollow under the branch.

After spotting the Caterpie, Yu Hai's gaze shifted to the Poliwag, and he explained his plan to capture the Caterpie.

"Poliwag, use Water Gun on the Caterpie inside the tree hollow to enrage it, then use Hypnosis to put the Caterpie to sleep..."
