Remodeling the Sanctuary

Day eleven on the deserted island, sunny.

Yu Hai woke up very early today, starting his training as soon as dawn broke. He also called his Poliwag to join him for runs, practicing walking on two legs.

He had trained too hard yesterday, and his whole body ached this morning. However, he knew that by persisting with his training, the muscle soreness would gradually improve.

Since he still needed to improve the shelter today, Yu Hai only ran for an hour before stopping his workout. He gathered more rags and waterproof plastic sheets, sewing together several large pieces to cover the top of the tree trunk.

The shelter was the most pressing matter. He didn't want to be drenched like a dog again, which was the motivation for him to finish capping the tree trunk as soon as possible.

The rest of his training session turned into him supervising Poliwag while also patching up the waterproof plastic.

Poliwag only ran for another hour before Yu Hai picked it up and placed it in a water bucket to cool off. Once Poliwag recovered some energy, they would go out to find Caterpie.

During that last hour, he finished sewing the waterproof plastic and rags. Grabbing his ladder and Frying Pan, he went to cap the tree trunk.

He used the same nails from yesterday; not many were needed to cap the tree trunk.

After setting up the ladder, he first covered the top of the tree trunk with two layers of rags, leaving a large hole in the middle of each layer, like a skylight. This would provide some light during the day, so it wouldn't feel like nighttime inside the tree hollow.

After covering it with rags, he nailed them to the tree trunk. To prevent the nails from piercing the rags, he needed to use a Wooden Board as a cushion.

Once he had stretched and secured the rags to the tree trunk, he proceeded to cover it with the waterproof plastic, repeating the same process, stretching and nailing it all to the tree trunk.

The waterproof plastic was three layers thick, and if it leaked, he could add more.

However, when he smoothed the tree trunk earlier, he had already created a slanted angle for rain runoff.

When it rained, the water would flow down the slanted top, preventing any pooling on the roof.

The side of the tree trunk facing the sea was lower, while the side facing the forest was higher.

He also planned to place his door on the side facing the forest, making it easier to camouflage.

Compared to wild Pokémon, he was more afraid of unknown strangers visiting his new home.

As the saying goes, "If you walk by the river often, you're bound to get your shoes wet."

No one had landed on the island in all these days, but it was uncertain if anyone would land in the future. Perhaps they would land on the other side of the island; he didn't know.

After nailing the waterproof plastic, he went to the side of the tree trunk facing the forest. Standing next to the trunk, he compared its height to his chest and drew a line on the trunk.

This line marked the height of his new door, which would be about 1.45 meters.

Afterward, he started hammering nails, punching holes along the inverted U-shaped frame he had drawn, until the entire frame was filled with small holes.

He only managed to complete half of the door frame before running out of strength; his arms were too sore to even lift.

He gave up on finishing the Gate of Opening work for the morning and returned to his temporary shelter, calling Poliwag to go out and find food.

"Poliwag, stop lying there. Let's go find lunch..."

When Yu Hai returned, he saw Poliwag floating in the water bucket, unsure if it was sleeping or just spacing out.

"Yo yo..."

Hearing Yu Hai's call, Poliwag immediately flipped out of the water bucket and followed behind Yu Hai, searching along the edge of the forest for Caterpie.

They didn't have to go far this time; they spotted Caterpie right after leaving.

"Poliwag, Water Gun, Hypnosis," Yu Hai's words were brief and lacked energy. The morning's training, capping the tree trunk, and starting the Gate of Opening had all consumed too much of his stamina; he was very hungry now.

"Yo," Poliwag immediately stepped forward and spat a Water Gun at the Caterpie on the tree branch, which was eating leaves, knocking it down.

"Chase it, don't let it get away," Yu Hai urged Poliwag as the Caterpie fell into the grass.

"Yo yo," Poliwag, seeing the Caterpie disappear, immediately entered the grass and whipped its tail.

Yu Hai, waiting outside the grass, only heard a series of thuds. Poliwag emerged from the grass dragging a foul-smelling Caterpie, not even needing to use Hypnosis.

Seeing the Caterpie, Yu Hai didn't waste any words. He directly threw a Poké Ball and captured it. Inspecting the Poké Ball, he saw that its potential was as mediocre as ever, only 23%.

"Let's go, Poliwag, time to head back," Yu Hai said, dragging his tired body and beckoning Poliwag to follow.

Upon returning to the temporary shelter, he briefly prepared the Caterpie and put it in the Stew Pot to cook.

He asked Poliwag to keep an eye on the fire while he leaned against the tree trunk and fell asleep. He was simply too exhausted and needed to rest for a while, asking Poliwag to wake him when the water boiled.

After an unknown amount of time, Yu Hai groggily heard Poliwag's calls and slowly opened his blurry eyes, seeing the Caterpie meat bubbling in the Stew Pot.

"Yo yo, yo yo," Poliwag retracted its small pink tongue when it saw Yu Hai wake up.

"Is it cooked? Let me see," Yu Hai went to the campfire and poked the Caterpie meat with chopsticks. Feeling that it was somewhat soft, he lifted the Stew Pot off the fire.

He divided the Caterpie meat and the soup, then took a large gulp.

Afterward, he quickly finished the Caterpie meat and soup, stood up, patted his pants, and called out to the stunned Poliwag, "Poliwag, come help me after you're done eating. We'll have a new home soon..."

To live in his new home as soon as possible, he was giving it his all, pushing himself to finish the shelter despite his exhaustion.

"Yo yo, yo yo," Poliwag nodded and accepted the request for help. But as it watched Yu Hai walk away, and then looked at the Caterpie meat on the leaves, it wondered when its food bowl would return.

Without its Frying Pan food bowl, it deeply missed its beloved bowl.

Yu Hai arrived beside the giant tree trunk and continued his Gate of Opening work. With only half the workload, it wasn't as tiring as before.

Before long, he had made small holes in the door, just waiting for Poliwag to arrive.

"Yo yo, yo yo..."

He lay on the grass and waited for a short while. Poliwag also hurried over, and he explained to Poliwag what needed to be done. "Poliwag, do you see these small holes?"
