"It's yours. Have some soup first to calm down," Yu Hai said, reaching out to stroke Caterpie's round little head. He had thought Caterpie had been frightened by Spearow and still hadn't recovered.

"Wuuu." Hearing that it was his, Caterpie glanced into Poliwag's bowl. There was no bird meat, only some soup.

Caterpie's smug old habit immediately resurfaced. Blinking his big eyes at Poliwag, he called out, "Wuuu, wuuu..."

"Yoyo, yoyo!" Poliwag immediately fired back.

From the tone of their exchange, Yu Hai could tell that Caterpie was provoking Poliwag again. There was obvious anger in Poliwag's cries.

"Clang, clang, clang. Alright, stop bickering." Seeing the two of them about to start fighting again, Yu Hai raised his chopsticks and rapped the stew pot, making them quiet down. Disrupting team harmony was not acceptable.

"Don't be jealous either, Poliwag. Your grilled meat is here..."

The bird meat roasting over the fire, seasoned with nothing but salt, was taken off the rack by Yu Hai.

He gently tore off a small piece with his hand and tasted it. After checking the flavor, he put all of it into Poliwag's frying pan bowl.

The texture was not very good. Whether boiled or grilled, the meat was tough, dry to bite through, and hard.

It was much like the fighting rooster meat he had eaten in his previous life—firm muscles and very chewy. Perhaps that had something to do with how often Spearow flew.

Dried into jerky and chewed slowly as a snack, it would actually be pretty good. It had the same flavor as aged cured pork from home. Without an iron stomach, it was best not to try it lightly, or the meat would be so tough it would make you wish you were dead.
