Background / History
The Qing and Shimizu families were longtime neighbors, and their fathers were business partners. Kanon and Qing Junce grew up together; because Qing was strongly opinionated, she commonly followed his lead as a child. 1
Kanon and Qing spent nine years in Hokkaido before returning to Kanagawa and enrolling at Shohoku High School together. She deliberately chose the same school in order to look after him, particularly given his chronic laziness and lateness. 2 3 11
She and Qing applied to Shohoku's basketball club on their first day. Her polite apology for their tardiness made a favorable impression, while Qing's attitude drew skepticism. 5
Appearance
Kanon is depicted as a strikingly beautiful young woman whose presence immediately attracts attention from classmates, spectators, and opposing players. 2 3 117
- Jet-black hair that reflects a faint violet glow in sunlight; it was short in childhood and long by the time she entered Shohoku. 1 2
- Deep, bright black eyes compared to obsidian or a star-filled night sky. 2
- Often described as sweet, graceful, and youthful in appearance. 1 117
- Wears athletic clothing while serving at training camp, including a white athletic jacket and sneakers. 158
Personality
Kanon is cheerful, kind-hearted, and highly attentive to the people around her. She routinely wakes Qing Junce for school and games, worries about his changing behavior, and presses him to become a more cooperative player. 11 31 72
She is polite and composed in public, but becomes forceful when Qing's indifference threatens the team. Her anxiety over arriving late for Shohoku's crucial Kainan match contrasts sharply with Qing's relaxed response. 5 57
Behind her gentle demeanor, Kanon is exceptionally confident in her own analytical ability. During matches, she can become stern, decisive, and intimidatingly focused; Qing notes that this serious side of her is not easy for others to handle. 56 126
Kanon is also academically gifted. Although no exams had yet been held, Shohoku's teachers expected her to rank first in her year. 18
