Background

Tsunade is a Senju Clan princess and one of the Legendary Sannin. She first encounters Hyuga Matsuba in Konoha after catching him staring at her; Jiraiya aggravates the confrontation, prompting her to shatter the ground with a strike while holding back. 6 7 She later senses in Matsuba an aura that reminds her of her grandfather, Hashirama Senju. 9

She provides Matsuba with a collection of high-level techniques that includes her Body Technique: Monstrous Strength. Matsuba later gives her a notebook containing the Six Powers, Observation Haki, and Armament Haki; Tsunade accepts it without demanding its source, treating the exchange as a matter of trust. 16 17

As the Jonin instructor assigned to Matsuba, Kushina, and Mikoto, Tsunade quickly realizes her students' exceptional level. She acknowledges that she cannot defeat Matsuba and is impressed when Kushina and Mikoto's teamwork forces her into a draw. 50
