Chapter 1075: The Case Was Solved
Lu Zheng frowned. Auntie Li was clearly lying.
"Is that so?" Lu Zheng smiled faintly, looking at the old woman, then at Auntie Li. "When will Xiaomei be back? May I wait for her at home?"
"O-of course!" Auntie Li nodded, not refusing.
They were all poor folk. There was nothing here that a young master like him, who looked as though he lived in the city and had been pampered in luxury, could possibly covet.
"Please sit wherever you like, Young Master. I'll pour you a cup of water." Auntie Li set down the bowl in her hands and helped the old woman sit. "Mother-in-law, rest first. I'll attend to this young master."
The old woman patted Auntie Li's hand in thanks, then nodded at Lu Zheng. "There's nothing much in this house. Young Master, please do not mind."
Lu Zheng smiled. "Yang Xiaomei saved my life. How could I dare mind?"
A kindly expression appeared on the old woman's wrinkled face. "It was only right, only right. Xiaomei has no other talents, but she knows herbs. Since she came across you, she naturally should have offered her help."
Lu Zheng smiled and nodded at the old woman, then turned and retreated into the courtyard. After looking around, he sat down on a stone stool nearby.
A moment later, after Auntie Li had settled the old woman, she came out carrying a bowl of warm water. "This is well water I just heated. It's still warm. The weather is cold, Young Master, so drink it while it's hot."
Lu Zheng accepted the chipped earthenware bowl, looked at the slightly cloudy warm water within, and gently set it on the table. Then he saw Auntie Li craning her neck to look outside the courtyard.
