A night in the cell felt as long as a week.
The three imprisoned red-haired gorillas did not sleep at all, suffering through a sleepless night.
An hour after being locked up, the red-haired gorillas first chatted to relieve their boredom. As they talked, they began arguing. They cursed each other furiously for three whole hours, shifted blame, launched personal attacks, mocked and sneered at one another, and even exchanged greetings with each other's ancestors and relatives until they were utterly exhausted.
Their little boat of friendship sank completely. The three red-haired gorillas fell silent, each shrinking into their own little cell with resentment and despair filling their hearts, staring blankly at the walls.
When people stayed too long in a quiet, unchanging, and boring environment, they suffered terribly and teetered on the brink of madness. They had to find something to do to ease it. The red-haired gorillas were no different.
Orange Juice was the first to start playing with the toilet, flushing it over and over. Hearing the commotion, the other two gorillas followed suit.
The sound of repeated flushing echoed through the cells. The three red-haired gorillas watched the changes in the toilet water and even stuck their paws—and sometimes their faces—into the toilet to feel the current. They splashed water out of the toilets until water streamed across the floor as if a drainpipe had burst.
The toilets never stopped flushing all night. The toilets in the three cells consumed more than twenty tons of water.
At dawn, the prisoners finally stopped, only to fall into fear again, worried that humans would discover the wasteful use of water and punish them.
When they were starving, the distant prison gates finally opened!
