The Courier stood outside the door, ramrod straight. He had a crew cut, a vigorous air between his brows, and skin darkened by the sun.
Song He and Xiang Xiaotong stepped out. The three of them tacitly glanced left and right. The corridor was empty.
"Comrade, that courier uniform of yours is somewhat unnecessary." Song He could not resist muttering, "Anyone could tell from a kilometer away that you're a soldier."
The Courier looked surprised. "Comrade, I really am a courier. I've been out and about for so long that I've just gotten a little sunburned."
With that, the Courier pulled out a delivery receipt and an envelope.
Song He and Xiang Xiaotong signed in turn and took the envelope.
"There's an additional message regarding this package." The Courier spoke solemnly. "Please read it in a secure place with no people or cameras. Read After Burning!"
"Understood!" Song He said.
Xiang Xiaotong raised her hand in a military salute. The Courier reflexively straightened and returned the salute, his movement as swift and precise as lightning.
Song He could not hold it in any longer.
The Courier flushed and stammered in explanation, "I'm discharged from the army. I'm just a courier now, really."
"If you want to pretend to be a courier next time, hunch your back a little first." Xiang Xiaotong did not know whether to laugh or cry. "When ordinary people stand at ease, they don't stand as straight as a spear."
The Courier smiled, put away the receipt, and left.
"An absolutely secure place with no people or surveillance... Where should we go?" Song He stuffed the envelope into his pocket. "Back to the dormitory?"
"The dormitory is too far away. I know somewhere closer, and you've been there before." Xiang Xiaotong had a sudden inspiration.
