Background

Yuan Jin was born into the Yuan Family, a cultivation family subordinate to the Five Mountains Sect. The family guards territory and provides tribute to the sect in exchange for its protection; its descendants may enter the sect to cultivate. His ancestor joined the Five Mountains Sect at the Foundation Establishment Realm roughly a century earlier, then established the Yuan Family after leaving the sect. Yuan Jin also has a cousin in the sect who had reached the Spirit Control Realm, giving him access to non-secret information about sect affairs and selection procedures 8 17.

Yuan Jin is ambitious and highly competitive. He refuses to accept a background role beneath more naturally gifted cultivators, seeking to rise beyond the ordinary disciple ranks and eventually attain the status of Core Disciple, Heavenly Prodigy, or even higher 8 17. This drive leads him to challenge Murong Xue despite recognizing the overwhelming advantage of her Earth Vein.

He is boisterous, blunt, and fond of teasing others, especially Zeng Fan and Murong Xue. In the imperial-city trial, he helps secure a top-three placement by cooperating with Zeng Fan against the Swift Monkey Beast challenge. He ultimately ranks second behind Murong Xue and ahead of Zeng Fan 12 14.

Seeking to understand the difference between their talents, Yuan Jin challenges Murong Xue first. His Five Kill Fist and Five Kill Force fail to overcome her superior cultivation and recovery, and she defeats him decisively 13.

Five Mountains Sect Disciple

After joining the Five Mountains Sect, Yuan Jin focuses on advancing through the Body Tempering Realm. He helps Zeng Fan reclaim Spirit Stones stolen by senior disciples, advances to Body Tempering Bone, and masters the complete Five Kill Force 20.

During the Disciple Competition, he is severely injured by Zhou Bao and eliminated. Zeng Fan later gives him a healing pill earned for defeating Wang Beichen, strengthening their mutual loyalty 25 26 27.

Waterfall Cultivation and Border Campaign
