Background / History

Akame was one of the seven elite members of the Empire’s Imperial Assassination Squad. She and her younger sister, Kurome, passed the squad’s selection process together, but the group accepted only seven candidates; Kurome was the eighth. The sisters were separated because the instructors believed family ties could compromise missions. 36 42

She later defected from the Empire after confronting its corruption, leaving Kurome behind. Kurome had been influenced by the Empire and would not follow her, creating an enmity that Akame believes can end only with one sister killing the other. 45

Following her defection, Akame was pursued by former comrades Cornelia, Nahashu, Tsukushi, and Pony. Although she could overpower them, she avoided killing them, using Kiriichimonji’s scabbard to incapacitate Pony and warning the group not to follow her. 8

After being defeated by Esdeath, Akame awakened in an unfamiliar mountain house. An unidentified voice instructed her to find Koizumi, claiming that he and the world’s distortion were connected to her appearance there. With Kurome’s whereabouts unknown, Akame chose to follow that lead. 10

Appearance

Akame is a black-haired, red-eyed girl who is usually dressed almost entirely in black, distinguished by red wristbands. Her appearance is recognizable enough that Imperial citizens identify her from wanted posters by her hair and eye color. 8 44

Personality

Akame is normally quiet, composed, and intensely mission-focused. Her comrades consider it unusual when she shows urgency or personal initiative, as she generally displays little enthusiasm outside missions. 15 19

Despite her assassin training, she is reluctant to kill former friends when another option exists. She carries guilt over leaving Kurome in the Empire and remains deeply affected by memories of their childhood and selection training. 8 42 45

She treats comrades as family after witnessing many companions die. This outlook drives her to worry over Koizumi’s safety during his first assassination mission and to assume responsibility for protecting Lia and Lie. 42 45 46

Imperial Defection and Pursuit

Akame flees through the jungle while pursued by former Imperial Assassination Squad comrades. She reveals Murasame to stop them, but deliberately spares them and continues investigating the Empire, Kurome’s whereabouts, and the world’s altered state. 8

Search for Koizumi

After surviving her battle with Esdeath, Akame follows an unknown entity’s instruction to locate Koizumi. Her intuition leads her to volunteer for a dangerous trip to the Imperial Capital, where she becomes unusually urgent after hearing his name. 10 15 19 20

Night Raid Cooperation

When Koizumi’s group reaches Night Raid’s base, Akame introduces herself despite feeling that he is familiar. She later asks him directly whether he knows Kurome, but remains disappointed when he confirms that they have not met. 36 37 38

Reias Assassination Mission

Akame accompanies Koizumi and Chelsea on the mission against Reias. She helps explain the Empire’s corruption, remains alert for danger, and worries over Koizumi entering the Imperial Capital alone. 40 42 43

During the operation, Akame is recognized by Reias and his men but lets Koizumi take the lead against the guards. After Lia and Lie are rescued, she advocates taking responsibility for their safety. 44 45 46
