History

The Miko lineage originated from the benevolent remnant of ancient divine beings, while its opposing half became Wǎngliǎng. Each Miko inherited Spiritual Power and the duty of maintaining the seal, but could not freely leave the Land of Demons because the seal bound them and the outside world lacked the Spiritual Power environment they required to survive. 74

Miroku trained from childhood to become her mother’s successor. Her mother departed after reinforcing the seal with her life, leaving Miroku to inherit the role at age ten. By fifteen, Miroku had become the strongest Miko in a thousand years and was already seeking a way to end the cycle rather than pass it to another generation. 80

When Hyuga Ao arrived to inspect the sealing grounds, Miroku sensed Ao’s nature as a “guest from beyond the heavens” and tested her spirit. She guided Ao to the Underground Palace, revealed the seal on Wǎngliǎng, and proposed a bargain: Ao would help end the Miko’s thousand-year duty, while Miroku would assist in removing Ao’s Caged Bird seal. Miroku removed one vertical chain as payment in advance. 72 73 74

Miroku later accepted the Zero-Tails into her body and used it to consume scattered demonic energy in preparation for a direct confrontation with Wǎngliǎng. The process exposed her to dark Spiritual Power, causing a period of corruption that injured Ao and forced Miroku to confront the danger of relying on the Zero-Tails. 79 80 115

Years later, Miroku secretly used a Miko art to conceive Shion using a seed taken from Hyuga Ao. Believing that Shion should not inherit the burden of defeating Wǎngliǎng, Miroku deliberately manipulated a fluctuation in the Miko Great Source to release the demon and its Terracotta Army, intending to destroy it while the wider ninja world restrained its forces. 265 266 271

During the final battle, Miroku fought beside Hyuga Ao and the Allied Shinobi Forces. She used pure Spiritual Power to suppress Wǎngliǎng, entered its body for a soul battle, and ultimately assimilated it after experiencing a hundred years within the mental world. The merger ended Wǎngliǎng’s threat and transformed Miroku into the new origin. 276 277 281

Her greatest desire is freedom. Having inherited generations of Miko longing to see the outside world, she resents the confinement imposed by her role and seeks to end the cycle permanently rather than burden Shion with it. 73 80 265

Miroku is also proud and competitive, often answering Ao’s teasing with teasing of her own. Beneath that confidence, she is vulnerable to isolation and deeply values the concern Ao shows her—care she had not received from people who primarily revered her as a deity or tool of succession. 75 76 80

Her resolve can become selfish. Before releasing Wǎngliǎng, she rationalizes the likely deaths beyond the Land of Demons as a burden the rest of the continent should finally share.
