Basic Spells

Looking at everyone present, Senior Brother Su wore a smile as he nodded to them and said:

"You have familiar faces among you, as well as junior disciples who have come here for the first time. During the first five days of every month, I teach the basics of the Five Elements spells here. "Today happens to be the first day of the month, so I'll begin explaining the Five Elements spells. First, I'll explain the incantation for cultivating the 'Fireball Technique'..."

As Qin Fengming listened to Senior Brother Su introduce the incantation for the 'Fireball Technique,' his heart stirred. This spell formula was basically identical to the 'Fireball Technique' formula in the little cultivation manual he had.

For five days straight, Qin Fengming came to the Merit Transfer Hall on time every day to listen to Senior Brother Su explain the Five Elements spells.

Over those five days, Qin Fengming not only familiarized himself with the basic Five Elements spells, but also learned the classifications of spells. He discovered that spells were divided into low-level, middle-level, and high-level spells.

Low-level spells included low-grade, middle-grade, and high-grade spells.

The 'Fireball Technique,' 'Ice Bullet Technique,' 'Object Control Technique,' and 'Spirit Eye Technique' were all low-grade spells, while the Sky-soaring Technique, Ice Wall Technique, and Earth Wall Technique were middle-grade spells.

Since he was only at Qi Gathering Stage Three, he could practice low-grade spells only. Middle-grade spells consumed too much of his spiritual power, and he still could not cast them freely. The Sky-soaring Technique was the sole exception; he could cast it for a short period.

The Sky-soaring Technique was a spell that allowed one to fly through the air. One could also do as the Second Young Master of the Zhang Family had done and affix a Sky-soaring Talisman. A Sky-soaring Talisman allowed one to move faster while consuming less of one's spiritual power.

The Object Control Technique allowed one to control objects from a distance, making them move, fly, and so on. It was also the foundational technique for manipulating magical artifacts, magical treasures, and the like.

The Spirit Eye Technique allowed one to use spiritual sense to examine the depth of the spiritual power in an opponent's dantian. During the Qi Gathering stage, it could roughly determine which level the opponent was at, as well as whether the opponent was a mortal or a cultivator.

The Ice Wall Technique, Ice Shield Technique, Earth Wall Technique, Earth Shield Technique, and the like were all defensive spells. After being cast, they could create a barrier in front of or around oneself to protect against harm. They were quite useful in battles between low-level cultivators.

As far as Qin Fengming was concerned, middle-grade spells still could not be cast smoothly. He would have to reach the middle stage of Qi Gathering before he could use them.

During this period, Qin Fengming also made a special trip to Senior Brother Su's place to ask about how to use the ring. Senior Brother Su found it very strange that Qin Fengming did not even recognize a storage ring.

But when he learned that Qin Fengming followed Martial Uncle Fei, the expression on his face relaxed. Martial Uncle Fei devoted himself wholeheartedly to artifact refinement and ignored everything else. It was not strange at all that Qin Fengming did not recognize a storage ring.

After Senior Brother Su's patient explanation, Qin Fengming finally understood how to use the storage ring and learned some of its taboo rules.

First, a storage ring could not store another storage ring. Otherwise, the laws of space would burst the storage ring apart.

Second, a storage ring could not store living beings. Otherwise, anything that entered would become a dead object.

Third, a storage ring had a certain storage limit and could not store objects larger than its storage space.

After bidding farewell to Senior Brother Su and returning to his residence, Qin Fengming immediately took out the storage ring belonging to the Second Young Master of the Zhang Family. Following the method Senior Brother Su had explained, he easily removed the things inside.

The problem that had troubled him for several years was finally solved, filling him with extraordinary joy.

Inside the ring were more than thirty low-grade spirit stones and seven talismans. Two of them were early middle-grade talismans: a Thunderclap Talisman and an Ice Shield Talisman. The rest were early low-grade talismans: an Invisibility Talisman, an Earth Evasion Talisman, an Earth Shaking Talisman, and two Fireball Talismans. There was also a jade bottle containing three yellow pills of unknown medicinal type, a black fragment that faintly flickered with spiritual power, and a small fork two or three inches long.

From the spiritual power on it, Qin Fengming judged that the small fork was actually a high-grade magical artifact. This discovery made him even more excited. There were also dozens of blank talisman papers, a talisman brush, and a book titled "Talisman Crafting Basics."

He picked up the small fork and, following the method Senior Brother Su had taught him, injected a little spiritual power into it. The fork immediately swelled to more than two feet long. Its entire body flashed with a dark, glossy light, appearing astonishingly formidable.

He lightly tapped it with his hand, and the fork circled the room several times, moving as fast as lightning. Qin Fengming could not help feeling a burst of lingering fear. If the Second Young Master of the Zhang Family had driven this fork from the very beginning, Qin Fengming's life would have been over long ago.

He next picked up the jade bottle containing the yellow pills and opened the cap. A surge of exceptionally pure spiritual power rushed toward his face. These pills were clearly extraordinary, but since he did not know what kind of medicine they were, he did not dare take them.

He then picked up the black fragment. He sensed that the spiritual power within it was even more abundant than that of the small fork. Yet after injecting some spiritual power into it, nothing changed at all. He was utterly baffled and had no idea what the object was.

He picked up the book titled "Talisman Crafting Basics." It was a book introducing methods for making beginner-level talismans. It explained how to make them, what materials to use, and several methods for drawing low-grade talismans. Although it was not especially detailed, it opened the door to talisman crafting.

Among these items, what delighted Qin Fengming most was the discovery of dozens of spirit stones. Having already gained some understanding of spirit stones, he was naturally overjoyed. One had to know that among the items he had received upon entering the sect, he had possessed only two. Now, he had suddenly obtained dozens.

After fiddling with the various items for a while, Qin Fengming put everything on his person into the storage ring. Qin Fengming knew that his spiritual power was still shallow, and he still could not cast middle-grade spells.

One day, Qin Fengming once again came to the place where Senior Brother Su cultivated. Standing outside the restriction, he sent out a voice transmission talisman.

The voice transmission talismans were the few unknown talismans in the bundle Qin Fengming had received when he first arrived at the Luoxia Sect. After speaking a few words to the talisman and using his spiritual sense to fix upon a person or location, the voice transmission talisman would fly there automatically.

Before long, Senior Brother Su appeared at the pavilion entrance. Seeing Qin Fengming, he smiled and said, "Junior Disciple Brother Qin, what brings you here?"

During the several days they had interacted, Qin Fengming had been the most diligent and hardworking of these disciples, so Senior Brother Su had developed quite a favorable impression of him.

"Sorry for disturbing your cultivation, Senior Brother Su. Please forgive me. I simply did not know whom else to ask, so I had to trouble you." Qin Fengming answered respectfully.

"What is it you wish to ask? Go ahead." Senior Brother Su spoke calmly.

Qin Fengming did not beat around the bush and said directly, "I want to look through some cultivation manuals and ancient texts, but I don't know where I can borrow them. I ask Senior Brother Su to please give me some guidance."

"Go inward from here. There is a main hall on the mountain peak ahead called the Pivot Pavilion. Its collection covers everything under the sun, including alchemy, artifact refinement, cultivation methods, and talisman crafting. However, Qi Gathering stage disciples can only consult the books on the first floor. Do you have a token?"

Qin Fengming froze, not knowing why Senior Brother Su was asking. "I don't know what you mean by a token. Martial Uncle Fei gave me a jade token before, though I'm not sure whether it counts." As he spoke, he took out a jade token and handed it to Senior Brother Su.

"Hmm, this jade token does count as a token. Take it there. It should be enough to let you enter."
