Background / History
Seven hundred years before the Astral Express's arrival, Jarilo-VI was invaded by enemies from beyond the stars. A sudden cold wave buried the invading Legion in blizzards, leaving Belobog as humanity's remaining refuge. The City Builders established and maintained the city, while Alisaland became its first Supreme Guardian. 63 64
Belobog endured the Great Cold, isolation from interstellar visitors, and the long-term effects of the Stellaron. Although its people attributed their survival to Qlipoth, Hua Yi explained that the city had persisted through the actions and conviction of its Preservation Pathstriders rather than direct intervention from the Aeon. 63 65
By the time Hua Yi's group arrived, Void rifts had begun opening inside the city, stretching the Silvermane Guards' already limited manpower. The Upper and Lower Districts had also been separated by Cocolia's blockade order, worsening shortages, social division, and the Lower District's vulnerability to Void erosion. 64 66 69
Hua Yi and the Astral Express crew eliminated Void creatures, repaired rifts, and demonstrated overwhelming external technology. After Hua Yi sealed the Stellaron and suppressed the Void without killing Cocolia, Cocolia resigned as Supreme Guardian and Bronya succeeded her. 65 93 98 106
The city subsequently restored communication between its districts, reconnected to the Interastral Peace Network, revived its museum, and began pursuing interstellar trade and cultural promotion. 98 100 102 127 270
Geography & Infrastructure
Upper and Lower Districts
Belobog consists of a surface Upper District and an underground Lower District built around mining and geothermal industry. The Lower District's enclosed towns, including Rock Town and Rivet Town, lack natural sunlight and ventilation. 66 80 127
- The Upper District houses the Administrative District, Kliperburg, the Goethe Hotel, the Golden Opera House, and the History and Culture Museum. 68 123
- The Lower District produces geothermal ore and energy, historically exchanging them for food and daily necessities from the surface. 69
- Cable cars, a manned elevator shaft, and a resource-exchange route connect the two levels. 70
- Cocolia's blockade severed contact between the districts for years; this division was lifted after the Stellaron crisis. 98 106
Climate Control
Belobog's streets and plazas are lined with red geothermal heating devices, making the city considerably warmer than the snowfields beyond its walls. 63
Geothermal heating alone accounts for only a fraction of the city's warmth; the greater effect is attributed to the lingering influence of Preservation around Belobog. 85 123
Notable Locations
- Kliperburg — The political heart of Belobog, headquarters of the City Builders, residence of the Supreme Guardian, and later center of Hua Yi's royal authority. 64 98
- Goethe Hotel — A former landmark in the Administrative District. It declined after Upper–Lower District contact was cut off and lost its primary customers from the Lower District. 68
- History and Culture Museum — Revitalized as a civic, cultural, and economic project after the crisis; its exhibits include historical artifacts, Underworld Fire memorabilia, and former frontline equipment. 102 120
- Interstellar Communication Base Station — A facility within Kliperburg's territory that was repaired to reconnect Belobog to the Interastral Peace Network. 100
- Great Mine Area — A Lower District mining zone affected by monsters and Void rifts. 81
- Everwinter Peak — The site where Hua Yi sealed the Stellaron and ended the immediate Void crisis. 100
Government & Society
Supreme Guardians
The Supreme Guardian is Belobog's highest executive office. The position originated when the citizens acclaimed Alisaland, the city's founding hero, as the first Supreme Guardian; it has been inherited for seven centuries. 64
- Alisaland / Alisa — First Supreme Guardian. She used the Stellaron during the Legion invasion in an attempt to preserve Belobog, with the resulting Great Cold halting the Legion's advance. 86 97
- Cocolia Land — Former Supreme Guardian. Her blockade order harmed the Lower District, and her Stellaron influence contributed to the city's crisis; she resigned after the disaster was resolved. 98 106
- Bronya Rand — Cocolia's adopted daughter, former commander of the Silvermane Guards, and Cocolia's successor as Supreme Guardian. 64 106
King of Belobog
Following the Stellaron crisis, the population acclaimed Hua Yi as the King of Belobog for saving the city, suppressing the Void, and guiding its recovery. Bronya retained the Supreme Guardian title, while Hua Yi refused to centralize every decision under his own authority. 88 95 106 107
City Builders
The City Builders founded Belobog and represent its civic tradition of Preservation. They administer the city through Kliperburg and preserve the legacy of the Supreme Guardians. 63 64
Their historical failures and internal corruption became subjects of reform after the crisis, particularly as the city sought to improve treatment of Lower District workers. 99 120
Silvermane Guards
The Silvermane Guards are Belobog's principal military and security force.
- They defended the city against monsters and Void incursions during the crisis. 64
- Their commander was Bronya prior to her succession as Supreme Guardian. 64
- Many guards have family ties to the Lower District and were separated from them during the blockade. 106
- They later cooperated with Underworld Fire during Belobog's reconstruction. 106 145
Underworld Fire
Underworld Fire formed in the Lower District after the Silvermane Guards withdrew during the blockade. Its members maintained order and fought Void creatures under severe conditions. 98
- Returning Iron Guards wear red ribbons in recognition of Underworld Fire's service. 98
- The organization is regarded as a counterpart to the Silvermane Guards in the Lower District. 99 106
- Its members and the Lower District's miners became important symbols of Belobog's shared Preservation ideal. 120
Economy
Belobog's economy was severely constrained by geographic isolation, the Upper–Lower District blockade, limited raw materials, and the loss of interstellar trade. Even major Upper District landmarks such as the Goethe Hotel had little or no revenue. 68 69
Resources and Industry
- Geothermal ore is the Lower District's central resource and supports Belobog's machinery, heating, Automatons, and mining economy. 69 127
- Belobog's automaton technology is compatible with Interastral Peace Corporation standards, despite being less advanced than Herta Space Station technology. 103
- The city later explored geothermal ore jewelry, including high-value geothermal rings, as an interstellar product line. 132
Recovery Projects
- Winter City Museum — Developed to preserve history, improve morale, generate revenue, and help external visitors understand Belobog's culture. 102
- Interstellar Network access — Allowed the city to acquire smart terminals, establish communications, and prepare for external trade. 100 101
- Reunified markets — The reopening of Upper–Lower District exchange improved tax revenue and economic activity without raising taxes. 116
- Winter City Martial Arts Exhibition — Held to raise morale, recognize warriors, and reinforce unity between citizens, the Silvermane Guards, and Underworld Fire. 143 145
Interastral Peace Corporation Debt
Belobog inherited a major debt to the Interastral Peace Corporation from aid funds and resources received seven hundred years earlier. 107 121
Rather than accept direct corporate management, Hua Yi and Bronya argued for Belobog's self-development, using the city's history, Preservation identity, and survival against the Legion and Stellaron as its commercial value. 127
Topaz and the Strategic Investment Department ultimately promoted Belobog's story and geothermal products in the wider galaxy without charge. 270
Culture
Belobog's identity is strongly tied to Preservation: enduring hardship, protecting others, and rebuilding civilization through collective effort. Its citizens regard the seven-century survival of their city as a shared miracle rather than the achievement of a single leader. 73 107
The reopening of the History and Culture Museum became central to reconnecting the Upper and Lower Districts. Exhibits such as Underworld Fire's red ribbons, Lower District photographs, frontline cannons, and damaged armor were used to preserve shared memory and reduce class division. 102 109 120
