History

The Blood Cloud Coffin is an ancient, living artifact associated with catastrophic soul refinement. Early accounts describe it as so dangerous that anyone seeing it open should flee; it can command nearby Yin souls and fierce ghosts, and it inherits the abilities of the soul sealed within it 15.

It was sealed beneath Yinfeng Town, where it became entwined with the massive living formation and the hidden Phoenix Coffin. Zhou Ying voluntarily entered it to guard the formation and prevent others from exploiting the secret below Yinfeng Town, though the identity of the force that originally imprisoned her remains unknown 343 455.

King Xuan later nurtured the coffin with sacrifices and a blood formation, promising power to the Yin Soldiers and ghost generals within the formation. When it opened, the promised cultivation opportunity became a massacre: many spirits were absorbed into blood mist or transformed into corpses, while the coffin's funeral procession emerged greatly strengthened 127 142 143.

Yi Tian was brought before the coffin as a blood offering. It drained his blood essence and attempted to refine him, while Zhou Ying—trapped inside as its main soul—resisted it to protect him 132 144. As the coffin consumed more ghosts and people, it developed the ability to imitate Zhou Ying and created a false “Grandma” avatar to lure Yi Tian into becoming its replacement main soul 455.
