Background

Mu Chen is Mu Feng’s son and Mu Yuan’s younger brother. Although Mu Yuan is not his biological sibling—being the son of Mu Feng’s sworn brother—the two were raised together and regard each other as brothers. 1

He was selected for the Spiritual Road but was later expelled under unclear circumstances. His time there nevertheless left a formidable reputation: he was known as “Mu Chen the Calamity,” and his actions reportedly alarmed the upper ranks of the Five Great Academies. 4 18 95

Mu Chen’s mother, Qing Yan Jing, left him the Great Pagoda Scripture. He cultivates it both for its exceptional power and in hopes of one day reuniting his family; Qing Yan Jing is later revealed to be trapped in the Fudo Ancient Clan. 8 136

Personality

Mu Chen is diligent, determined, and strongly motivated by family. He trained relentlessly after receiving the Great Pagoda Scripture, resolved to repay the humiliation directed at Mu Yuan and eventually bring their family back together. 8 10

He is usually composed when provoked, but becomes forceful when others threaten his brother or repeatedly insult the Mu family. After decisively defeating Tong Guan and Jiang Li, he challenged any dissatisfied Heaven Tier student to step forward. 27

Mu Chen’s rivalry with Mu Yuan is friendly rather than hostile. He measures his own growth against his brother’s, accepts being surpassed as motivation, and readily supports Mu Yuan’s decisions even when it means withdrawing from a competition himself. 12 29 134
