A.R.G.U.S. Headquarters.
Amanda Waller, who was not yet part of the upper management, came across a strange piece of intelligence.
"I suspect something unusual happened near the South American rainforest."
Amanda reported to her superior.
"Tell me what you think, Amanda." Her superior sounded thoroughly unconcerned.
"First, we discovered that four hours ago, there was an abnormal and sudden change in the weather patterns in that area."
"According to meteorological experts, such unusual weather should theoretically have been impossible."
"Then, based on satellite imaging, we found that during the period of meteorological abnormalities..."
"...the local energy peaks experienced irregular fluctuations."
Her superior remained unhurried. "So, Amanda, what exactly are you trying to say?"
"Be more direct."
Amanda frowned slightly at her superior's careless demeanor.
Still, she dutifully said:
"We have reason to suspect that a supernatural incident occurred there."
"No, no, no. There is no 'we.' Only you think so, darling."
Her superior spoke frivolously, even running his flirtatious eyes up and down Amanda's body.
At this point, Amanda Waller did not yet look like the fat Black woman from Suicide Squad.
On the contrary, she was very slender.
For anyone who had seen Amanda's version from the TV series Green Arrow, she probably looked roughly like that now.
In the film Suicide Squad, when she pitched the Suicide Squad plan to a high-ranking military official, she implied that she had experienced workplace sexual coercion.
She was talking about this superior, perhaps others as well. Who knew?
In America, there were always white men with varied tastes.
Suppressing her disgust, Amanda tried to continue explaining her findings.
"But we lost Doctor June Moon..."
"Do we really need to talk about that right now?"
"Amanda, why don't we do something more interesting? Just you and me."
Amanda paused. Looking at the lust-addled white pig before her, she felt her patience finally run out.
"No, sir. Perhaps I was mistaken."
Expressionless, Amanda picked up the documents from the desk and ignored the man calling after her.
She returned to her seat and opened the contents of a folder on her computer.
After thinking for a while, she finally decided to send it to a higher department.
That white pig certainly did not know she had plenty of dirt on him.
She had originally intended to keep him around for a while longer, but she had truly had enough of his stupidity.
After sending the email, Amanda leaned back and let out a breath.
She now needed to think carefully about how to deal with what came next. No organization liked a whistleblower.
So after sending that letter, she had to start worrying about her future again.
She suddenly found it ridiculous. She had worked so hard and endured her idiot superior's sexual coercion.
And this was all she got in the end?
Absolutely not!
A fierce unwillingness ignited within Amanda. She wanted to prove herself.
Moreover, she had always believed that A.R.G.U.S. needed her, and so did the world.
Under the leadership of mediocrities, A.R.G.U.S. could not contribute anything at all to global security!
She had to find some outside help. But who?
Then a name suddenly surfaced in her mind: the Justice Society.
Although the Justice Society was often mistaken for a knockoff Justice League in the DCEU, it was actually an organization established earlier than the Justice League.
But the organization was extremely low-profile.
Amanda had reviewed A.R.G.U.S. files, yet she only knew of three members.
Doctor Fate, Hawkman, and Atom Smasher.
However, Atom Smasher was said to have retired long ago. He was very old now and probably could not fight anymore.
But Hawkman and Doctor Fate should still be fine.
Still, A.R.G.U.S. had little connection with the Justice Society, and that was all because of the idiot currently in management.
Amanda could only rely on her own efforts to ask for their help.
However, new intelligence soon drew her attention again.
"Umbrella Corporation? Where did this come from?"
Six hours after the energy anomaly occurred in the South American rainforest, a group claiming to be from the Umbrella Logistics Security Department entered the area.
They were actually helping local victims and refugees rebuild their homes, and even seemed to intend to establish a presence there.
Well-versed in intelligence work, Amanda immediately sensed that something was wrong. She used the authority at her disposal to investigate the company.
Yet she found nothing.
Naturally. To ensure that Umbrella remained entirely under his control, Dane had decided that the company would never go public.
As a result, its financial situation and business intelligence were completely confidential.
Although its employees were still ordinary people, under Cortana's coordination, everyone was compartmentalized and managed like S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
There was no way Amanda could uncover Umbrella's true circumstances through her intelligence network alone.
Even her unauthorized attempt to use hacking techniques to infiltrate the company's system was discovered by Cortana.
Since Cortana discovered it, Dane naturally did as well.
Following the trail, he traced the IP address back to A.R.G.U.S.
At this point, A.R.G.U.S. had yet to realize that its technological level was not the best in the world.
Thus, much of its classified intelligence was carelessly stored on internet-connected servers. Without alerting them, Dane had Cortana take a look.
In the end, they discovered that the person investigating him was Amanda Waller.
"Interesting. I didn't expect her to notice us."
To be fair, if Amanda's views on superhumans were not even more obsessive than Batman's, she would have been quite suited for administrative work in the Justice League.
She was truly good at this sort of thing.
Dane checked her work computer and figured out why she had noticed Umbrella.
"So it was the incident in South America that caught their attention."
This was actually an accident, since a place like the South American rainforest would not normally attract A.R.G.U.S.'s attention.
A.R.G.U.S. had been keeping an eye on June Moone for certain reasons. They only began monitoring the area as well after discovering that she had gone to South America.
In Suicide Squad, after June was possessed by Enchantress, she quickly fell into A.R.G.U.S.'s hands precisely because they had watched her for a long time.
But now was not the time to let A.R.G.U.S. set its sights on him. The organization was full of the arrogant habits of American law enforcement agencies.
Dane intended to make contact with the organization only after the Justice League had fully developed.
Noticing Amanda's whistleblower email, he decided to cause her a little trouble.
So he copied the email and forwarded it to the person she had reported.
Although it could not change the man's eventual fate of being purged.
Dane believed he would teach Amanda a profound lesson and slow her climb up the ladder.
Meanwhile, Amanda had no idea she had become a target. Alone, she traveled to St. Roch, Louisiana.
Hawkman's base was located there: an enormous manor.
Hawkman's real name was Carter Hall. He was a reincarnated being, and in his first life, he had been an Egyptian named Khufu.
He had also been the son of Ramesses II of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt.
Legend had it that he and his wife, Chay-Ara, discovered a spaceship made of Nth Metal.
Using the wondrous metal aboard that craft, they forged divine artifacts.
Those artifacts not only gave them strength beyond mortal limits, but also granted them the ability to reincarnate their souls.
Through reincarnation, Carter had accumulated enormous wealth in this life. Even an organization like A.R.G.U.S. had to communicate with him politely.
Amanda composed herself and entered the manor gates.
What Does Shazam Have to Do with Me, Dane?
Hawkman Manor was enormous, but it had few servants.
It was not only where he lived, but also the base he operated under the identity of Hawkman.
Therefore, everyone allowed to remain here was a trusted subordinate. They all knew Carter's identity and were willing to serve him.
"Hello. Are you Ms. Amanda Waller?"
"Mr. Hall is waiting for you in the hall. Please follow me."
After confirming her identity, an elderly butler bowed and invited her inside, leading the way ahead.
Amanda soon met the wealthy superhero in the hall. To her surprise, he was also Black.
"I heard you were looking for me, Amanda Waller of A.R.G.U.S."
"Yes, Mr. Hawkman."
Hawkman gestured to the butler, who tactfully withdrew.
"I investigated you, Ms. Waller."
"A.R.G.U.S. does not seem to have granted you that authority. Did you come to see me in a private capacity?"
Carter turned and sat on the sofa, crossing one leg over the other.
Amanda found herself a seat and said unhurriedly:
"I know about you, Mr. Hawkman, and I also know some things about your Justice Society."
"I came this time only as an ordinary person seeking your help."
After thinking for a moment, Carter neither agreed outright nor refused.
"Before that, shouldn't you explain what happened?"
Amanda was delighted. The lack of an explicit refusal already revealed his attitude.
She quickly took out the files and materials she had previously shown her superior and handed them to Hawkman.
Carter was not like that useless fool. He easily extracted the useful intelligence from those documents.
And that intelligence made his expression turn grave.
"Shouldn't you submit this intelligence to your superiors at A.R.G.U.S.?"
"Please believe me, Mr. Hawkman. I tried."
"But that man had no reaction other than staring at my chest."
Hawkman seemed taken aback, then looked at her with some sympathy.
"I understand what you mean. I'll make time to investigate it."
