It looked as though a demolition crew had just barged in and set off explosives.
"Th-this... what happened?" Jane was at a loss.
"Do you remember that red substance that entered your body just now?"
"I remember you said it was called Aether..."
"That's right. It's inside your body now."
"So... does that mean I've gained superpowers?" Jane asked innocently.
"No. Superpowers are generally controllable. Can you control it now?" Dane shook his head.
Of course Jane could not. She could only feel the Aether flowing through her veins, but she had no way to command it.
Dejected, she said, "No."
"That's good." To her surprise, Dane nodded. "When you can fully control it, it'll mean you're not far from death."
"Wait, what do you mean? I'll die?" Jane was terrified.
"Power comes at a price, Jane Foster—especially immense power gained out of nowhere. This kind of energy, capable of shaking reality itself, is not something you can withstand."
"Really?" Jane asked doubtfully.
That said, despite Dane making it sound so dire, Jane herself did not feel anything wrong.
As if he knew what she was thinking, Dane said, "The reason you can't feel it is because the Bracelet I put on you is protecting you for now. Otherwise, you'd soon be riddled with terminal illness and get to experience the pain of chemotherapy firsthand."
Jane shuddered, picturing herself bald and pale-faced as she underwent chemotherapy.
A little frightened, she glanced at Dane and suddenly had an idea.
"You're saying all this because you want me to cooperate with you, right?"
"You want the Aether?"
Jane was smart and quickly realized why Dane had appeared here.
Still, she hesitated. She did not know whether Dane really was with Umbrella, as he claimed. He looked more like a rich young heir
