Green Goblin

Chen Changsheng and Gwen might not have learned what love was at Otto's house, but when they left, they were holding each other's arms.

Judging by how they occasionally leaned toward each other's ears and whispered together, they probably, more or less, had learned what love was.

At Dr. Otto's house, Chen Changsheng had learned more than just about Dr. Otto's spirit. He had also finalized when the experimental funding would arrive.

Chen Changsheng had just received one hundred million US Dollars from General Ross, and he had invested fifty million of it in Otto without hesitation. It was the respect this scientist deserved.

With the injection of massive funding, Dr. Otto's Nuclear Fusion project progressed at astonishing speed. Before long, preparations were complete, and it entered the experimental stage.

By this time, Peter Parker had already started working several jobs at once because of his family's financial difficulties. Of course, most of his income still came from selling Spider-Man's photos to the Daily Bugle.

Chen Changsheng had to say, Spider-Man was busy. He had to study, work part-time at the newspaper, and, most importantly, help the citizens of New York City on the streets.

Even while so busy, Peter still maintained his grades without any decline. That talent was truly enviable.

Dr. Otto's experiment had attracted the attention of reporters across New York. After all, an experiment that had long been publicized as the new dawn of human technology was something everyone wanted to see for themselves.

Peter Parker, a part-time reporter for the Daily Bugle, had also rushed to Dr. Otto's laboratory at the first opportunity, ready to witness the birth of the dawn of human technology.

Because of his previous exclusive interview with Dr. Otto, Peter had received a handsome payment. If Dr. Otto successfully conducted this Nuclear Fusion experiment, Peter might very well receive another unexpected windfall.

As Dr. Otto's employer, Chen Changsheng had also hurriedly met with him before the experiment began. After offering a few words of encouragement, Chen Changsheng moved far away, preparing to witness this experiment that was worthy of being recorded in history.

Fortunately, Chen Changsheng was still clearheaded. He knew exactly how dangerous a Nuclear Fusion experiment could be. Success would be fine, but if it failed and exploded, he might not be able to withstand it either. Being injured—or killed—by the explosion would be rather awkward.

At the previous family gathering, Chen Changsheng had already raised the issue that Nuclear Fusion would produce tremendous gravitational force.

Therefore, for this experiment, Dr. Otto had specifically reinforced the device. He had also designed a device similar to a tokamak magnetic-confinement system, intending to counteract gravity with immense magnetic force. This required conducting the experiment in a vast space.

The experimental site Dr. Otto had chosen was enormous. It had been converted from an abandoned mechanical factory that had once produced giant machinery.

In this huge laboratory, Dr. Otto had ensured that there was not a single extraneous object within the range affected by the gravity produced by Nuclear Fusion. This provided the necessary conditions for the experiment to proceed smoothly.

After exchanging loving glances with his dear wife for a while, Dr. Otto delivered a speech to everyone about how today was the future. He then put on the mechanical arms he had developed.

They were four specially made mechanical arms operated through neural links, and they possessed considerable intelligence.

With sufficient funding, Dr. Otto's progress was far better than in the movie. At the very least, everything proceeded smoothly from the beginning.

Everyone present watched as Dr. Otto carefully placed a tiny amount of tritium and heavy-nucleus atoms into the reactor, then activated the laser ignition device.

Finally, under the intense beam of the laser, the two masses of fusion material began to merge, erupting with dazzling light.

Everyone felt as though a small sun had suddenly ignited before them. If one had to describe this little sun blazing with boundless radiance, it could only be called the future of human technology.

Watching Dr. Otto laboriously use the mechanical arms to gather the fusion material at the very center of the reactor, Chen Changsheng saw a tremendous force sweep across the entire site, like a train rushing past at high speed and kicking up waves of pressure.

The energy from the Nuclear Fusion Reactor was rapidly converted into electrical energy through the conversion device and injected into the gravity-restriction system, forcibly counteracting gravity with electromagnetic force. Being pulled between two opposing forces did not feel pleasant, but fortunately, everyone managed to steady themselves and continue watching the experiment. As they looked at the quietly operating miniature fusion sun, applause and cheers gradually rose from the crowd.

Just as everyone thought the experiment had succeeded and humanity was about to enter a new era, a green figure riding a glider burst into the experimental site.

Accompanied by a bone-chilling, sinister laugh, the green figure riding the glider threw a special pumpkin grenade at the Artificial Sun that Dr. Otto was struggling to stabilize.

When the pumpkin grenade exploded, Dr. Otto could no longer stabilize the Artificial Sun, and the enormous explosion triggered a chain reaction. The miniature fusion sun erupted into tremendous flames, breaking through the electromagnetic field and shooting straight toward Dr. Otto.

Dr. Otto instinctively used his artificial mechanical arms to wrap himself up. It was highly effective, but the consequences were also severe.

Although it protected Dr. Otto's life, the massive shock wave completely destroyed the metal-needle connection device linked to his nerves. Dr. Otto's spinal nerves became tangled together with the metal needles.

The suppressor chip behind Dr. Otto's neck was also damaged, robbing it of its ability to limit the intelligence of the mechanical arms.

Amid the panicking crowd, a figure rapidly rushed to Dr. Otto's wife and pulled her out. It was Chen Changsheng. He had felt that everything would not go so smoothly, but he had never expected Green Goblin to appear so suddenly.

Fortunately, Chen Changsheng had not been far from Rosemary, and while fleeing, he had rescued Dr. Otto's wife.

Chen Changsheng truly did not want two lovers to endure any painful memories. Dr. Otto's life or death was unknown, so for now, he could only save Rosemary.

Quite a few agile security personnel were also working desperately to rescue people. However, with the Artificial Sun no longer restrained, everything was developing in an uncontrollable direction. Even though these security personnel were highly trained, their results were limited. At most, they could only save some of the people nearby.

Chen Changsheng had lived in this world for so long that he would never place his safety in the hands of others. Since he had excess Biomass, he had already created quite a few enhanced soldiers. After implanting memories of loyalty to the Umbrella Corporation, Chen Changsheng had gained these fearless security personnel who were loyal to Umbrella's security department.

On the surface, these security personnel had all kinds of identities, but their true origins were absolutely loyal weapons of war created by Chen Changsheng through the Blacklight Virus.

However, because these security personnel had merely been stationed at Umbrella Corporation's headquarters as decorations, Chen Changsheng had not invested much effort in them. Their strength was only average, and when faced with such chaos, they could barely help at all.

The Artificial Sun's loss of control caused chaos at the scene. The reporters who remained clearheaded quickly pressed their shutters, capturing the green figure gliding through the sky with their lives.

Tomorrow, this would be the biggest headline.

With a tremendous explosion, the Artificial Sun finally collapsed under the strain. Flames rained down from the sky, spreading across the surrounding area. Some people who were too close were burned into drifting ash on the spot.

Everyone within the area covered by the flames was turned into charred corpses without exception. Dr. Otto, who had been at the very center of the explosion, was instead shielded from the flames by the enormous shock wave, suffering only some impact injuries.

Although Dr. Otto was in slightly better condition than those turned to ash, he was hardly well off either, judging by his charred appearance.

Peter Parker, who had been in the crowd, was also left dizzy by the explosion, but he still quickly changed into his Spider-Man suit amid the chaos.

As Peter sprinted at full speed, Spider-Man officially entered the fray. The lofty dome was covered with countless points for web attachment, making it ideal for Spider-Man to maneuver. Green Goblin, however, could not unleash his full strength because of the space restrictions.

In a short time, Green Goblin was struck by Spider-Man because of his own mistake. Even while wearing armor and having undergone enhancement, Norman Osborn could not help wondering whether he had just been hit by a truck when faced with Spider-Man's mutated strength.

Seeing Spider-Man swing back on his webs, Green Goblin threw several pumpkin bombs into the crowd, betting that Spider-Man would turn around to save people.

Spider-Man did not disappoint anyone. He indeed turned back to stop the bombs from exploding, while Green Goblin laughed wildly and took advantage of the chaos to escape the crisis.

While Spider-Man and Green Goblin battled, Umbrella Corporation's security personnel once again rushed into the sea of flames at the risk of their lives and rescued Dr. Otto.

Dr. Otto, burned into a charred mass, had completely stopped moving and gave off a strong roasted smell. The reason he had not been sent directly for cremation was that Chen Changsheng felt he could still be saved.

Under the watchful eyes of Umbrella Corporation's medical personnel, Chen Changsheng injected Dr. Otto with a dose of powerful Life Essence.

Dr. Otto, who had shown no signs of life, unexpectedly began breathing again after the injection, his chest rising and falling.

The medical staff stared in shock. Only after Chen Changsheng reminded them did they recover and quickly send Dr. Otto back to Umbrella Corporation.

By then, everyone Chen Changsheng cared about had been rescued. He glanced at Spider-Man swinging through the air on his webs and battling Green Goblin, then turned and left.

The grudges between those two were for them to settle themselves. As for how to deal with Green Goblin, Chen Changsheng already had a plan.

Green Goblin had ruined Dr. Otto's experiment, causing Chen Changsheng to lose a large sum of US Dollars for nothing. As for how Norman Osborn would compensate Chen Changsheng for his losses?

Other than Osborn Industries, Chen Changsheng could not think of anything that could possibly appease Norman Osborn.
