Background & History

Cyberlina attended Hogwarts in an earlier era, where Potions professor Isolt Sharp privately tutored her. Her OWL record reportedly contained six Outstanding grades and one Acceptable. She later served as a Hogwarts professor, becoming known to Dumbledore, the castle’s ghosts, and portraits from past headmasters. 3 4 13

Her relationship with Ominis Gaunt defined much of her later life. Ominis was her lover and husband; his blindness influenced the darkness of their former home. After his death, Cyberlina pursued soul research and attempted to bind their souls, an effort she later came to regret. 2 3 13 48

During her earlier life, Cyberlina became involved with Sebastian Sallow’s attempts to cure Anne Sallow. She refused to proceed with a method that would leave Anne as an empty “puppet,” though Sebastian accused her of manipulating both him and Ominis. 26

Cyberlina also modified a Guardian’s Oath contract and bound herself to Ominis instead. At some point, she absorbed dark substances connected to Ancient Magic, becoming its unrestricted wielder while reportedly retaining her sanity. 26 27

Her hatred of the Gaunt family led her to destroy Gaunt Manor, use the Imperius and Cruciatus Curses on its members, extract their souls, and burn them. She later admitted that revenge did not erase her hatred. 34

She returns to Hogwarts in the present as a fifth-year transfer student. Dumbledore believes her return may be connected to Merlin and an approaching crisis involving Voldemort, while Cyberlina adopts eliminating Voldemort as the purpose of her new life. 1 9

Appearance

Cyberlina presents herself as a poised young witch with an elegant manner, though her apparent age conflicts with her long history at Hogwarts.

  • Black hair; later seen with long hair, though older photographs show her with short hair. 2 7 31
  • Light brown eyes described as molten gold or pale golden-brown. 2 20 24
  • Her eyes are less sensitive to light; her former home was kept deliberately dark for both her and Ominis. 2
  • Often wears Slytherin robes, but also favors dark green clothing with silver or snake-like details. 6 20 38 41
  • Her robe sleeves contain pockets enlarged with Undetectable Extension Charms. 21

Personality

Cyberlina is composed, courteous, and frequently warm toward students. She patiently answers questions, assists younger pupils, comforts frightened animals, and encourages Harry to use Parseltongue responsibly rather than fear it. 12 13 18

Her kindness is paired with a calculating, teasing temperament. She often speaks politely while exposing lies, manipulating a conversation, or steering others toward conclusions she wants them to reach. Dumbledore, Snape, and Sebastian each recognize that she conceals motives behind an approachable exterior. 4 9 11 26

She is intensely protective of people she cares about, especially Ominis, but this loyalty can lead her toward forbidden research and ruthless retaliation. Her confrontation with the nine-cup trial shows that she still carries deep grief and regret over Ominis’s death. 34 48
