Background / History

Demon Nests are portions of the Sky Demon Realm that intersect with the human world when earth veins become abnormal and magnetic fields reverse. The Sky Demon Realm exists within the World's Dark Side, preventing humanity from actively exploring it; a territory that collides with reality becomes a Demon Nest, while the creatures emerging from it are called Heavenly Demons 8.

The Sky Demon Realm was discovered after Great Chu's Grand Ancestor mobilized nationwide research three centuries after the nation's founding. Its inhabitants possess strange force fields that distort the real world and protect them from ordinary means of attack 8.

More than twenty years before the present era, collisions between the Sky Demon Realm and reality began increasing sharply. Demon Nests subsequently appeared across the world, contributing to the fall of countries unable to field sufficient top-tier martial strength 250.

Properties and Hazards

• A Demon Nest is an extradimensional space peeled from the World's Dark Side; each is a remnant of a shattered world with its own extreme environment 331.
• Their environments can include blood-moon nights, perpetual darkness, bone-eroding yin winds, swamps, lethal cold, deserts, and other abnormal celestial phenomena 331.
• The Sky Demon Force Field surrounds a nest and obscures its true scale from outside observation 510 511.
• Advanced human technology is ineffective inside a Demon Nest: electronic devices fail, and power generation through fire, water, wind, or other methods cannot function 179 512.
• Humans entering a nest must obey the Sky Demon Realm's rules, just as Heavenly Demons are constrained by human-world rules when they emerge outside 512.
• The force field of a Heavenly Demon can be broken by a Martial Artist who has crossed the First Great Limit and mastered willpower, or by modern demon-suppressing technology in the human world 8.
• Demon Nests can contain nodes linking them to other nests, creating passageways across otherwise distant regions 208.
• If enough nests connect and merge, experts fear they could drag the human world into the abyss 331.

Classification

A Demon Nest's level is determined by the concentration of its demonic qi, which is in turn governed by the strength of its Demon Nest Lord 269 512.

Demon Nest Lords

The Demon Nest Lord is the strongest Great Demon within a nest and determines its demonic-qi concentration 512.

• Solid-Type Lords can be physically constrained by the human world's laws; the Ancestral Dragon could not extend even its claws to a node 652.
• Concept-Type Lords are especially dangerous because their spiritual power can seep beyond a sleeping body and influence the human realm 103.
• Concept-Type entities such as Mountain Whispers can project mental influence as far as a nest entrance despite remaining confined within their territory 651 652.
• A Level 5 nest awakening without a Seven Limits Martial Arts Great Sage stationed nearby can destroy an entire nation 250.

Human Use and Containment

• Once every Heavenly Demon in a nest is cleared, the state and martial institutions may claim it as a regulated resource zone for sustainable development 130.
• Demon Nest products are used to produce weapons, armor, spirit pills, and rare life-extending treasures 513.
• The fist-blade Moon at the Bridge of Helplessness was forged from Nether Iron and the fangs and true spirit of a Level 3 Demon Nest Lord 327.
• Low-risk nests near Martial Universities may be kept under controlled strength as practical-combat training grounds for students 624.
• Nests that are too dangerous, too depleted, or already designated as resource zones are generally inaccessible to ordinary Martial Artists 515.
• Destroying a node can sever a nest's connection to the human world and prevent demons from escaping through it 566 574.
• Sealed nests may still require cleanup, as subterranean Heavenly Demons can remain hidden even after most visible threats are eliminated 396.

Thousand-Headed Demon Nest Crisis

The Level 4 nest outside Yong'an City became the center of a battle against the Thousand-Headed Flood Dragon Demon, whose shadow covered the sky and whose many heads exhaled annihilating black mist 109. Its true body was considered beyond the ability of a Six Limits Heavenly King to defeat, requiring a Martial Arts Great Sage for eradication 186.

Following the crisis, the nest was conquered and transformed into a resource site. Its known nodes nevertheless remained a security concern, as fugitives could use undiscovered passages to escape into other regions 208 261.

Chencang Demon Nest Riot

Qimu, the former lord of a Level 4 Demon Nest, secretly transferred its enormous demon body into the already suppressed Level 3 Chencang Demon Nest 346. It later burst through the entrance seal, unleashing tens of thousands of Withered Wood Puppets, Thorned Abominations, and Azure Wood Beguilers into the surrounding city 386.

The riot critically injured Martial Arts Venerable Huo Ting and forced the Northlands' guardian, Lu Ang, to confront Qimu directly 386. Subsequent counterattacks eliminated most of the escaped Heavenly Demons, but the nest's underground structure made complete eradication difficult 396.

Ling Nü Node Destruction

A force led by Zhou Yun entered Ling Nü Demon Nest to destroy the node connecting it to the human world and stop any fleeing demons 566. Zhou Yun annihilated the node with a spear strike, scattering the Ancestral Dragon's forces and securing the nest 574.

Trivia

• Demon Nests may be far larger internally than their entrances suggest because the force field shields their actual scale from outside perception 511.
• The low-level Yellow Sand 011 Demon Nest has no Demon Nest Lord, but its demonic sand and severe sandstorms can still kill Martial Artists who disregard the terrain 511 512.
• The Demon Summoning Hall and similar cults worship powerful Heavenly Demons associated with Demon Nests as supposed gods 186 216.
