The light over the village had been dim to begin with, and before long, the sky went completely dark.
A little lingering light had filtered into the thatched hut, but as darkness fell completely, its cramped interior sank into darkness as well.

The shrieking continued for a good while before gradually dying away.
"Th-this is a eldritch being?" the Eastern Emperor asked, pointing at the ball of light outside the hut.
Through the thick thatch, they could make out an irregular lump of light. The piercing shrieks had come from it.
"Yes. They've started coming out," Nuwa said with a nod.
After the first eldritch being emerged from its hut, the second followed close behind.
Like the first, the second eldritch being let out a series of agonized shrieks...
Then came the third, the fourth, the fifth...
At first, everyone could still endure the distressing wails, but the endless screams put them under tremendous strain.
The Eastern Emperor, the Heaven Defying Rat King, Ying Lao, and the others looked somewhat ashen, and even began to grow agitated.
"Will this noise go on all night?" Luo Zheng asked quietly.
Nuwa shook her head with a bitter smile. "This is only the appetizer. These eldritch beings have assigned roles. Every night, they gather and wail with all their might. You can hear them even outside the Land of Wailing."
