Horikita enters Advanced Nurturing High School as an isolated Class D student. She refuses Kushida Kikyo's invitation to the girls' gathering and is already known for exceptional academics, physical fitness, and an abrasive personality that keeps her apart from most classmates. Kushida recognizes her as a former middle-school classmate, while Horikita does not remember Kushida or her past. 18 22 196

Her early interactions with Bai Lan are defined by hostile verbal sparring. When Bai Lan proposes that they publicly pose as boyfriend and girlfriend so they can act as each other's “shields,” Horikita rejects him with an enormous text message filled with “4,” an unlucky number in Japan. 18
