Background / History
Mana is the energetic student council president of Daibei First Middle School and the leader of her Pretty Cure team. She treats Ai-chan as a child in her care, readily calling herself the girl's “mom who takes care of her.” 57 64
After Ash defeats the Pretty Cures and brings them to the hospital, Mana thanks him for helping her friends but refuses to accept his self-centered philosophy. Instead, she resolves to become his friend and change his view of love. 63 64
During the Dark Zone conflict, Mana refuses Regina's demand that she abandon her friends. Her determination awakens a temporary surge of power, allowing her to help destroy the Dark Zone with the Lovely Force Arrow. 79 80
Ash's later capture of Arisu and defeat of Mana's teammates devastates her. She withdraws from school and isolates herself at home, believing she has failed as Cure Heart. Regina's intervention and Mana's realization that Ash seeks the resolute Cure Heart rekindle her fighting spirit. 119 130 132
Mana ultimately confronts Ash in the Mirror World to save him from his darkness. Though she gains enough power to defeat him, she honors their promise and chooses love over violence, embracing him until his Dark Echo dissipates. 149 155
In later events, Mana struggles to reconcile her returning memories of Ash with the “villain” she encounters again. She investigates his identity, dates him to understand their connection, and agrees to battle him once more in order to find answers through their clash. 945 948 950
When Catherine attempts to control Ash and dismisses Mana as unworthy of him, Mana fights beside Ash in Parthenon Mode. Ash openly defends his love for her, and the two later confess their feelings after Catherine's defeat. 952 954 955
During Dust's final attack, Mana is left impaled amid shattered mirrors after Another Ryuga traps the other Pretty Cures in the Mirror World. 987
Appearance
Mana has burgundy-to-wine-red hair and wine-red eyes. In her later adult depiction, she wears her shoulder-length hair in a bow-tied ponytail and is described as an exceptionally beautiful young woman. 166 750
- Her usual school outfit includes a purple shirt, pink pleated skirt, and purple stockings. 948
- As Cure Heart, she wears a pink battle suit with ribbons and a heart-shaped chest emblem. 951
- Parthenon Mode adds a silver cape and wing-like adornments. 954
- She has enough untransformed athletic ability to nearly keep pace with Ash while racing up the 999-meter Clover Tower. 949
Personality
Mana is defined by expansive kindness and a belief that she should help anyone in need. She often accepts too many responsibilities, to the point that Ash worries her constant help will become a burden both to herself and to others. 68
She is intensely optimistic, self-confident, and difficult to discourage. Even after losing temporary power following the Dark Zone battle, she immediately focuses on becoming stronger through her own efforts. 80
Her compassion is not naïve passivity. After her collapse following Ash's attacks on her friends, Mana recognizes that the Cure Heart Ash sought was someone passionate and resolute, then rises again to fight him on her own terms. 131 132
Mana can also be blunt, competitive, and unexpectedly assertive regarding love. She encourages Rikka to stop denying her feelings for Ash and decides to follow her own heart rather than suppress her desires. 750 752
