An endless expanse of thick gray-white fog shrouded this stretch of sea.
An old wooden boat that looked like it had seen quite a few years was moving at an unhurried pace, cutting through the eerily calm surface of the water as it sailed into the depths of the fog.
The hull rocked gently with the waves, letting out rhythmic creaks—"creak... creak..." Together with the splashing of the boatman silently rowing at the stern, it became the only sound in this silent world wrapped in dense fog.
The air was so damp it felt like water could be wrung from it. Cold moisture clung to skin and clothing, bringing a sticky discomfort.
The sky was completely hidden. Everything was covered in a hazy gray-white that had lost all color and direction.
"Whoa, that's... that's a huge fog..." Naruto sat at the bow, both hands gripping the gunwale as he leaned half his body out. His bright blue eyes were wide as he tried hard to make out what was in the mist, but aside from the churning gray-white, he could see nothing at all.
"I can't see anything! This fog is way too thick! Are we really heading to the other shore? We're not gonna get lost, are we?"
His voice sounded somewhat muffled in the heavy fog, carrying curiosity about the unknown surroundings and a trace of unease.
The boatman working the oar and Tazuna, who was crouched in the middle of the cabin, both looked even graver than usual.
They did not answer Naruto. They only kept their faces taut, their gazes sweeping vigilantly through the dense fog around them, as if something terrifying might charge out from behind that wall of mist at any moment.
