Background / History

Menma spent fifteen years in a Limited Tsukuyomi world that he believed was false. There, he initially mistook himself for Naruto, found that Minato and Kushina were alive, and concluded that the world lacked its proper past and future because figures such as Madara, the Sage of Six Paths, and Kaguya did not exist. Seeking escape, he accumulated power, attacked all five great villages with Great Spiraling Rings, and provoked the Fourth Shinobi World War before the world rejected and expelled him. 1

He awakened on the night of the Nine-Tails Incident as Naruto's twin brother. Obito abducted Menma and Kushina into Kamui, then abandoned the newborn at Konoha's orphanage after marking him with a Kamui coordinate. Yakushi Nonō took him in. 1 499

Growing up in the orphanage, Menma retained fragments of his infancy and knowledge of Naruto's identity. His lingering fear that reality itself might be fabricated left him withdrawn and unstable, even as Kabuto and Nonō treated him as family. 2 499 He later reunited with Dark Kurama, his gentle Nine-Tails partner from the Limited Tsukuyomi world, and began rebuilding his strength in the true world. 3 4

Menma's long-term objective became the replacement of the existing shinobi order. He freed Uchiha Hikari from an Uzumaki seal, established control over Hoshigakure under the identity of Asura, and transformed it into the foundation of the Land of Stars. 57 60 64 He intends to unify the Shinobi World, eliminate war and discrimination, and redirect ninja power toward construction and social development. 210

He is ruthless toward enemies and willing to use lethal force, genjutsu, and intimidation without hesitation.
