If Ronglin had deliberately let him see his strategic ability, was that another hidden move to win Burgess over? Burgess could not help thinking so.
"You're overthinking it." Ronglin said, "Do I need to hide such a trivial scene from you? How important do you think you are? Can you change the course of this war? After learning of my deployment, can you help the Lodun defenders turn things around? You can't. Since you can't, why should I avoid you and fear letting you know?"
Burgess's heart skipped a beat, and he suddenly wanted to cry. So he had overestimated himself? Ronglin simply did not take him seriously or see him as a threat?
"Then your plans for the future seem far too broad to me!" Burgess had no choice but to change the subject. "Without sufficient control, all the effort you've put in may end up becoming someone else's wedding dress in the future!"
This was Burgess's greatest doubt. "This is only my current strength on paper," Ronglin said. "With every step I take toward success, more people will continue to move closer to me. For every person who comes over to my side, the enemy will have one less person they can recruit and one more enemy. Today, the Rodou Army is still resisting, with three allies helping them fend off the enemy. But after the Rodou Army falls tomorrow, those three Lodun allies will all scatter, and they may even directly offer tribute and surrender to me."
