As for Itachi, there was no point counting on him.
The little guy was far too mature for his age. He was usually reserved and rarely smiled, speaking like a little adult. Don't expect him to fool around and laugh with the other children like you did.
Only Shisui could make it work. Without Shisui, if Itachi, Mei Terumi, and Kisame Hoshigaki were together, perhaps none of them would say a single word for half a day. Don't doubt it—it really was that exaggerated.
