Ronglin helped Konoha repel Sunagakure before political pressure forced him from the front lines. After returning to the village, he arranged for Shisui to accompany him on a mission to the Land of Earth and awakened the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.

• Ronglin hunted down Sunagakure infiltrators, then supported Konoha’s retreat by attacking the Sand’s Puppet Unit with Black Scale.
• White Fang and Jiraiya asked Ronglin about the war, while Sunagakure’s leaders considered an alliance with Iwagakure to break the stalemate.
• Ronglin destroyed his transfer order, but left the front lines with Uchiha Diqin and returned to the village after learning the Shimura, Hyuga, and Senju had helped force the decision.
• Ronglin reunited with his former classmates, treated them to barbecue, and walked Kurenai home after she confessed that she liked him.
• Ronglin humiliated Sarutobi Asuma in a prank, then told Uchiha Fugaku to keep the Uchiha out of village service for two years and never let one join Root.

Ronglin took Shisui into the Land of Earth, trained him through dangerous encounters, and returned to Konoha with intelligence about Iwagakure’s possible entry into the war. He later challenged Minato to a spar, revealing the overwhelming strength of his Eternal Mangekyo and Perfect Susanoo as the fight continued with Minato and Gama Bunta struggling to damage him.

• Ronglin and Shisui traveled through the Land of Grass and Earth in disguise, while Ronglin explained the history behind Konoha’s hostility with Iwagakure and warned Shisui to conceal his identity.
• Ronglin used a visit to the Pleasure Den to teach Shisui about judging his limits while gathering information, then led him out of the village when Stone Ninja pursued them.
• Ronglin set Black Scale on the pursuing Stone Ninja and made Shisui fight two Rock Hidden Genin, then promised to train him after his wound healed.
• After three months of training Shisui on the road, Ronglin returned to Konoha and reported that Iwagakure was moving supplies and might join the war.
• Ronglin spoke with Tsunade about Konoha’s defeat and its preparations, then used his Power of Time to freeze her and kiss her cheek before escaping.

After sparring with Minato, Ronglin learned that the Land of Earth and the Land of Water had both declared war on Konoha. At the Land of Water front, Tsunade tried to secure Uchiha cooperation, but Ronglin refused deployment alongside the Hyuga because he still resented his transfer.

• Ronglin fought Minato and Bunta, then survived the blast from his time-stopping technique and returned to the village with Black Scale.
• Ronglin attended the emergency meeting where the Third Hokage announced wars with the Land of Earth and the Land of Water, and assigned forces to both fronts.
• Ronglin refused to fight against Kirigakure alongside the Hyuga and joined the Uchiha deployment to the Land of Water front with Shisui.
• Nara Shikaku organized Konoha's camp and proposed mixed units, but Uchiha Fugaku and Hyuga Hiashi clashed over authority and the meeting failed to unite the clans.

Ronglin helped Konoha counter Kirigakure’s infiltrations as the Seven Ninja Swordsmen struck the village’s supply lines. Might Duy opened the Eight Inner Gates to defeat them but died from the effort, leaving Ronglin to recover his remains and claim Kubikiribōchō.

• Ronglin led Shisui and Lao Qi against infiltrating Mist ninja, and stopped a dying enemy’s secret technique so Lao Qi could kill him.
• Tsunade and Nara Shikaku addressed Kirigakure’s infiltration tactics, and Konoha strengthened its patrols and Hyuga reconnaissance.
• The Third Mizukage sent the Seven Ninja Swordsmen into Konoha’s rear to attack its supply lines, and they ambushed a convoy protected by Anbu and Genin.
• The Seven Ninja Swordsmen overwhelmed the convoy’s defenders, and Suikazan Fuguki singled out the surviving Might Duy for execution.
• Might Duy opened the Eight Inner Gates and unleashed a devastating attack, while Ronglin rushed to the battlefield with Hyuga Ritsurin and Uchiha Izumi Nishi.
