The monk leaned on his broken meditation staff, gasping for breath, his eyes fixed on Su Fei with shock and disbelief.
With great difficulty, the monk forced out a few words, blood continuously spilling from the corner of his mouth.
"Boy, once Shadow Kill Tower accepts a mission, it will never let you go."
"Xuan Zhen is an Earth Rank Killer of Shadow Kill Tower. Even if this monk has failed, others will come to kill you in the future."
After speaking, the monk bowed toward the east.
"Master above, this unfilial disciple Xuan Zhen bows to you one last time."
"I regret it so much. If I had known, back at Bore Temple, I would not have fought my junior brother over such a trivial matter and been expelled from Bore Temple because of it."
"If Bore Temple had not cast me out, how would I have joined Shadow Kill Tower and ended up like this?"
Su Fei glanced at the monk. So this monk had a story behind him.
But that had nothing to do with me.
He had heard of Bore Temple's reputation. It was a major Buddhist sect, powerful enough that its influence was no weaker than the White Lotus Sect's.
"A Grandmaster Realm discarded by Bore Temple—no wonder you survived one slash from me. This Buddhist Body Refining Martial Art is somewhat interesting. Then I'll just have to slash you once more."
The monk's head shot into the sky, while his headless corpse fell to its knees, still facing east.
Blood burst forth in a spray.
Su Fei sheathed his blade without even looking at the corpse, then swung himself onto his horse.
"Let's go."
He patted the horse's back, and hoofbeats rang out once more, trampling through the blood and shattered flesh scattered across the ground.
He rode onward.
Out of the town.
Not long after Su Fei left,
several black shadows arrived there.
They fell silent at the sight of the mangled corpses covering the ground.
"Su Fei did this? He's actually this fierce?"
"It would have been one thing if a bunch of Black Rank Killers died, but even Xuan Zhen, an Earth Rank Killer, died. Su Fei's strength is quite impressive among those in the Grandmaster Realm."
"His records say he is only eighteen. To possess such combat power at eighteen, he is absolutely no ordinary Grandmaster Realm martial artist. It seems he is no ordinary person, but a Prodigy Martial Artist."
"In that case, inform the White Lotus Sect. To kill a Prodigy Martial Artist like this, we need to send a few more Grandmasters. In short, it had better be worth more money."
"Fifty thousand taels of silver isn't enough. At least one hundred and fifty thousand taels."
"Understood."
At the White Lotus Sect headquarters, when the White Lotus Sect Master learned that Shadow Kill Tower wanted more money, he was somewhat enraged.
He wondered whether they were trying to make a fool of him.
Yet after learning of the strength Su Fei had displayed, he pondered for a while and ultimately agreed.
He knew Shadow Kill Tower's rules: they recognized money, not people.
After all, a prodigy like Su Fei was also a member of the Imperial Guard. He and the White Lotus Sect were natural mortal enemies. If Su Fei was not killed early, the sect master would find neither rest nor peace.
The next few days were quite peaceful.
Su Fei galloped at full speed, only occasionally encountering a few petty thieves blocking the road to rob travelers.
Upholding the principle of carrying out justice on Heaven's behalf,
he could not even be bothered to draw his blade, ending their lives with nothing but Finger Flicking Divine Ability.
One afternoon, the air was somewhat stifling.
After Su Fei passed through a dense forest, the view before him suddenly opened up.
A broad river stretched across his path, its waters rushing violently, yet there was not a bridge in sight.
"Looks like I'll have to find a ferry to cross the river."
Su Fei reined in his horse and was about to follow the river in search of a crossing when he suddenly heard the sound of water being cleaved upstream.
A large black-canopied ship drifted down with the current. Its hull was broad, its sails looming in shadow, yet it sailed as steadily as if on level ground amid the rushing waters.
The boatman was a lean, wiry man who looked over toward Su Fei.
Su Fei raised a brow. What a coincidence. I had only just arrived, and such an imposing ship had appeared?
Before Su Fei could think further, the black-canopied ship docked.
The cabin doors opened, and a group of martial artists holding weapons filed off the vessel.
In the blink of an eye, they had surrounded Su Fei.
There were roughly thirty-four of them.
Every one of them carried a grim, murderous aura, much like the Shadow Kill Tower killers from before.
In terms of Martial cultivation, more than half were in the True Qi Realm, while around ten were in the Xiantian Realm.
They appeared to be the elite forces Shadow Kill Tower had dispatched.
Before the crowd stood three figures whose auras far surpassed the others'. All three were in the Grandmaster Realm.
On the left stood a sinister old man in a green robe. He held a short blade in each hand, their surfaces gleaming with an eerie blue light—clearly coated in deadly poison. He stared at Su Fei like a venomous snake, a cold smile resting on his lips.
In the center stood a sturdy middle-aged man, eight feet tall, his upper body bare. His bronze muscles knotted like iron, and a twelve-foot spear in his hand pointed diagonally at the ground, its tip flashing with cold light.
Simply standing there, he was like an iron tower, exuding a crushing pressure.
On the far right was a woman wearing a provocative short red skirt. A butterfly with spread wings was tattooed upon her snowy-white long leg, making her appear youthful and beautiful.
But on closer inspection, the fine lines at the corners of her eyes exposed her true age. She played with a soft whip in her hand, flicking its tip against the ground. Her gaze was seductive, yet a trace of killing intent lingered in the depths of her eyes.
As she looked Su Fei up and down and saw how handsome he was, a restless heat stirred in her heart. She licked her lips.
Su Fei dismounted, lazily sweeping his gaze over the three of them.
"Shadow Kill Tower. You gathered so many people in such a short time. Your efficiency is not bad."
"But do you really think this lot is enough to kill me?"
The old man in green smiled, wearing the expression of one who had Su Fei completely in his grasp.
"Vice Thousand Households Commander Su, what a grand tone. You killed so many brothers of Shadow Kill Tower. Do you really think we are so easily bullied?"
The woman in the red skirt gave a coquettish laugh. Her voice was as pleasant as silver bells, yet it carried bone-piercing chill.
"Vice Thousand Households Commander Su, you are so young, so skilled, and so handsome. This little sister truly cannot bear to lay a hand on you. But what a pity—we took the White Lotus Sect's silver, so we must do their work."
The sturdy middle-aged man spoke, his voice booming like a great bell.
"I am Spear Demon, an Earth Rank Killer of Shadow Kill Tower. They are Blade Ghost and Whip Girl. Su Fei, today is the day you die."
There was no need to say it; those were all nicknames, not their real names.
The thirty-four killers simultaneously stepped forward, weapons drawing from their sheaths with a chorus of sounds.
Their murderous intent surged toward Su Fei.
Su Fei slowly drew the embroidered spring blade from his waist.
"Three Grandmasters. Shadow Kill Tower has truly spent a fortune this time. Unfortunately, you are still not worth looking at. Why have the Heaven Rank Killers not come?"
"Boy, you are arrogant! You dare look down on us!"
Spear Demon roared and struck first.
He fiercely thrust his spear forward. Its tip tore through the air and stabbed straight toward Su Fei's heart with the force to collapse mountains and shatter rocks. The spear wind swept up scattered stones from the ground, which actually gathered into a phantom stone spear in midair.
Blade Ghost's form flickered as his twin blades crossed, carving two eerie blue arcs through the air. Poisonous smoke spread out, sealing off Su Fei's paths of retreat to either side. Wherever the blade light passed, even the air took on an uncanny blue-black hue.
Whip Girl lightly flicked her wrist, and the soft whip shot forth like a spirit snake leaving its hole, winding toward Su Fei's neck with a shrill whistle that split the air. The barbs on its tip glinted with cold light.
At the same time, she lightly tapped the ground with her feet, intending to circle and restrain Su Fei first.
