• Su Fei questioned the villagers, investigated reported sightings, and followed foul black traces from the northern spirit fields to a cave he identified as the demon’s lair.
• Su Fei found the cave empty and organized the guards into groups to protect the village, but after more than fifteen days without another disappearance, he suspected the demon was waiting for them to leave.
• Su Fei told Hu Guangnian that the Ninth Barracks had to depart, then secretly placed disguised guards in the village and positioned Hu Jing, Qiu Xu, and others to ambush the demon.
