Inside a gigantic, plain-looking metal cube, Preso was busy in his private laboratory.
This place was at the very bottom of the entire city, in the refugee-camp tier designated by law.
Preso was not a native citizen of Sakr. He was an extraterrestrial, a citizen of a low-level civilization once conquered by Sakr.
The people of Sakr were not exactly friendly toward outsiders, but their advanced productivity had also created immense surpluses.
The benefits that trickled down, along with the food, clothing, housing, and transportation they provided, were all far superior to what he had enjoyed in his original Level 3 Civilization.
That allowed him to live the life of a noble lord—one he had once never even dared dream of.
But those benefits were not enough to support the high consumption of the upper world. With nothing else to do, he inevitably had to find something to occupy himself.
Preso did so partly out of interest, and partly because he wanted to rise above his station. He continuously studied his own folk science and carried out all kinds of explorations.
He had never had much chance to receive a formal education. He could only barter for materials on the secondhand market, greedily absorbing all kinds of knowledge.
These things were not originally open to people like them, but among formal citizens they circulated freely. There were even some elementary educational puzzle cards, which were very suitable for mastering basic knowledge.
Thus, he had managed to pick up quite a bit here and there.
What he was working on now was the production of a miniature nuclear battery that had long since been obsolete.
