Chapter 12: Arrival at Hogwarts
Hermione sighed helplessly. She usually never lacked pocket money.
That was why she and Brook had always been free-spending when it came to money.
But this time, the Gold Galleons they had exchanged were limited, so having a little extra was always better.
ε=(´ο`*)))~
It seemed she would have to tighten her spending.
If Brook needed it, she could still support him.
In the end, Brook paid one Gold Galleon, seven Silver Sickles, and five Bronze Knuts.
He had nearly swept the trolley clean of food.
The empty space beside the two of them was instantly piled high.
Even Brook was speechless.
Although he had bought things in Diagon Alley, the variety was small, so it was very easy to calculate.
He had never paid attention to the conversion rates of these coins.
He had always assumed it was a normal one-to-ten ratio.
It wasn't until the witch just now had calculated bit by bit with a quill that
he noticed.
1 Gold Galleon equaled 17 Silver Sickles.
1 Silver Sickle equaled 29 Bronze Knuts.
It was absolutely ridiculous.
He really wondered which "genius" had come up with that exchange rate.
Snacks were always the best thing to distract a child's attention.
Even a clever child like Hermione was no exception.
As Hermione ate the snacks, the smile on her face clearly grew wider.
Especially when she saw Brook's disgusted expression after eating a herring-flavored Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean.
It made her laugh even more.
Just as she grabbed a Chocolate Frog and hesitated over whether to eat it, the compartment door was pushed open again.
A round-faced little boy appeared before them.
His voice was very soft, "Sorry, have you seen my toad?"
Hermione shook her head slightly.
The tears in the boy's eyes grew a little more, "I lost it again! It always tries to run away from me!"
"What's your name?"
"Na... Neville Longbottom."
Hermione stood up, "My name is Hermione Granger, and he's Brook Lott. We'll help you look."
"Really?" Neville showed a surprised expression.
Hermione nodded seriously.
"Thank you, thank you." Neville quickly expressed his gratitude.
Then they walked out of the compartment.
"Aren't you coming along?" Hermione poked her head back into the compartment, looking at Brook.
Brook stood up reluctantly.
Besides her love of teaching others, Hermione had a hidden trait—she was nosy.
He hadn't spoken just now, hoping Hermione would temporarily forget about him.
Unfortunately, it didn't work.
He could only follow behind Hermione as she stepped out of the compartment.
He trailed her as she swept through one compartment after another.
Each time, Hermione would knock first, then ask, "Have you seen a lost toad?"
The answer was always "No."
But she tirelessly repeated the process.
Until they reached the middle of the train.
Suddenly, they heard a scream from up ahead, and saw someone waving their arms wildly.
Hermione quickly walked over, only to find that the short, stout boy who had screamed was already gone.
She looked down at the snacks scattered across the floor. "What happened?"
"Nothing." A red-haired boy was carefully examining the rat in his hands, replying impatiently.
"Did you get into a fight? Causing..."
Brook appeared beside her, his hand resting on her shoulder, cutting off her words.
As the saying goes, one must not show arrogance, but one cannot lack pride.
Not self-displaying, therefore clear;
If you find this book good, to avoid losing it next time, please remember to add it to your bookshelf.
Not self-righteous, therefore prominent;
Not self-boasting, therefore meritorious; not self-conceited, therefore enduring.
Hermione's condescending, lecturing tone easily rubbed others the wrong way.
"Sorry, we're looking for a lost toad. Have you seen it?"
Brook's height clearly put some pressure on the red-haired boy.
He answered stiffly, "No."
"Alright, thanks."
He drew his wand, gave it a light flick, and the snacks on the floor flew onto the seat.
"Thanks." The messy-haired boy with glasses said in thanks.
Brook gave a slight smile and gently pushed Hermione. "Let's go."
"Oh." Hermione pouted and walked forward.
She knew she sometimes spoke too bluntly, which could be annoying.
Ever since becoming friends with Brook, they had an agreement.
If she said something inappropriate, Brook could stop her at any time.
At the same time, a system prompt rang in Brook's mind.
[Congratulations to the host for making contact with the entire Golden Trio. Reward: one lottery draw.]
It dawned on him that those two were Harry and Ron!
They didn't finish sweeping the train car.
Because the broadcast announced their imminent arrival at Hogwarts.
They hurried back to the compartment and changed into their Wizard Robes.
The night air was chilly, and Hermione couldn't help but shiver.
Brook took out a prepared woolen hat and plopped it onto Hermione's head.
He wasn't cold at all.
Asgardian Power not only enhanced his physique and lifespan but also let him adapt to any environment.
No matter the weather, he only ever felt comfortable.
"Wow~ he's so tall," Hermione remarked.
Brook also looked at the giant man guiding the first-year students.
Over three meters tall, like a bear.
He knew that was Hagrid.
Any character with distinctive traits was easy to remember.
Dumbledore's hallmark was his nearly meter-long white beard.
And Hagrid's was his height.
They followed Hagrid along a dark, steep, narrow path.
At the end of the path was a lake, with many small boats moored at the shore.
On the slope across the lake, Hogwarts Castle stood towering.
Each boat could hold no more than four people.
So Brook and Hermione rode with two unfamiliar first-years.
The boat moved on its own toward the castle.
Hermione was clearly nervous; she gripped Brook's hand tightly, squeezing unconsciously.
The boat skimmed swiftly across the lake, and before long, they reached the castle's shore.
Led by a witch in emerald-green robes, they entered Hogwarts' gates.
The witch brought them to the doors of the castle's Great Hall and began her address.
At the same time, another system prompt rang in Brook's mind.
[Congratulations to the host for completing entry into Hogwarts. Reward: one lottery draw.]
[Congratulations to the host for completing first contact with Minerva McGonagall. Reward: one lottery draw.]
He felt that this system could be pretty discriminatory sometimes.
Hogwarts had so many professors.
Yet in the system, the quests related to McGonagall and Snape were practically forming their own series.
Meanwhile, quests for other professors were few and far between—some didn't even have any at all.
Take Dumbledore, for instance. As the headmaster, there wasn't a single quest about him.
Not an ounce of face.
Actually, what Brook didn't know was...
It wasn't that the system had no quests about Dumbledore.
Rather, these quests simply didn't name names.
For example, [Seize the Elder Wand] was related to Dumbledore.
Because the Elder Wand was in Dumbledore's hands.
(Hagrid's height is 11.5 feet. For the convenience of you esteemed readers, I'll directly replace units like ounces and feet with commonly used ones like grams and meters.)
