Background / History

Brook initially resists Dumbledore’s invitation to Hogwarts, viewing wizarding education as less appealing than pursuing wealth in the Muggle world. He nevertheless accepts enrollment, partly to pursue System rewards, and quickly becomes Hermione Granger’s first friend in the magical world. 3

Sorted into Gryffindor, Brook begins school alongside Hermione. He displays an unusual capacity to learn magic immediately upon seeing it, while his early System rewards include the Door-Door Fruit, Occlumency, Asian Sorcery, and top-tier Dark Magic talent. 8 14

Brook later discovers that his maternal family descends from the Bones family, one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. His grandfather was a Squib who entered the Muggle world, while his uncle Oliver urges him to reconnect with the diminished family. Brook accepts the surname Bones privately as part of a deal with Hassen, delaying any public change until adulthood. 33 50

At Hogwarts, Brook develops a formidable reputation through practical magic, pranks, combat ability, farming, and Quidditch. He assists Harry’s defense study group, teaches selected students, and eventually accepts a formal post as Hogwarts’ Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. 123 362 432

Brook travels repeatedly between worlds through the Rift Door. In the New World, he aids Nami against Arlong, recruits companions including Sanji and Patrick Redfield, and becomes captain of the Cloud Wanderer Pirates. 355 357 370 545

Appearance

Brook is notably tall for his age; after only two months at Hogwarts, he reaches 161 cm. His rapid growth and increasingly mature build make him physically imposing among his peers. 32

  • Often carries or fights with his transformed wand, Mingyue, in long-saber form. 439
  • Uses Flying Pig, a self-flying broom/battle armor with a missile-like shape. 69 176
  • Can disguise himself as other people, including Professor Quirrell. 66
  • His bloodline manifests as a fiery phoenix phantom during contact with Credence’s Obscurus. 147

Personality

Brook is detached, pragmatic, and often lazy in ordinary school life, preferring farming, sleeping, eating, or avoiding lessons to conventional academic effort. He is frank about not considering himself a particularly good person, yet he does not regard himself as needlessly destructive. 14 73 176

His humor is frequently mischievous or cruel, especially when teaching or provoking people he finds irritating. He enjoys showing off when challenged, but is also capable of calm strategic thinking and careful long-term planning. 241 433 586

Brook is intensely protective of people he considers his own. He may ignore insults directed at himself, but retaliates severely when someone harms Hermione, Professor Sprout, or others close to him. 83 203 488
