After Fafnir slaughtered another batch of demons, she turned back to see Angel wearing an apologetic expression.
Just like before, those demons had come for Angel.

After being targeted by demons twice in a row, Angel decided to conceal his appearance with the Transformation Technique. Yet it seemed useless. After they continued onward for a while, demons once again blocked their path.
Angel was thoroughly puzzled. His Transformation Technique incorporated the properties of Nightmare Illusion. By all rights, it should not have been so easily seen through.
"Could it be that the demons do not recognize me at all, but Canaan? After all, Canaan is an employee of the Illusion Hut. Seeing Canaan and associating it with me does seem to make sense."
As Angel pondered this, Canaan seemed to have seen through his thoughts. "Shopkeeper, it is not that your illusion is ineffective. It is that your distinguishing mark is too obvious."
Angel froze. What did it mean for his distinguishing mark to be too obvious?
Fafnir had also finished off the demons blocking the way. She turned to Angel and sneered, "Did you think your illusion could conceal the mark Odecras gave you?"
So it was because of the Flame Mark?! After snapping out of his daze, Angel touched his left earlobe. There was a pattern of flames there—the Flame Mark Odecras had left him.
The Flame Mark had originally been meant to conceal Angel's identity as a "human." Yet its effect was too distinctive. In all of Lasudelan, Angel was the only one who possessed it. That made him stand out like a crane among chickens. The demons did not even need to see it with their eyes; they could sense the Flame Mark's location.
