Boom!
As the central statue turned to sand, the demon suddenly crashed to the ground, unconscious.
Angel had also escaped disaster. He sat on the ground, gasping for breath.
Only after a long while, when the white smoke in the hall had dispersed and the dust had settled, did Angel shift his gaze from the demon beside him back to his own hand.
It seemed that Cruel Scholar's consciousness had now departed. The only thing left behind was the miniature statue in his palm.
Looking at the exquisitely detailed statue, Angel's emotions were rather complicated.
He had thought that after agreeing to Cruel Scholar's request, some accident would occur, or some uncontrollable change would arise. Yet none of that had happened.
The strange-looking statue rested quietly in his palm.
As though the dust had settled without stirring the slightest ripple.
Though he did not know whether anything might change in the future, at least for now, everything seemed calm.
Temporarily setting aside his doubts about Cruel Scholar's statue, Angel struggled to his feet. The demon in the distance was merely unconscious now, but no one could know whether it would awaken soon. Thus, the most urgent matter was to leave the underground hall.
Just as Angel was thinking this, his ears suddenly twitched. A sound came from behind him.
Clack, clack... It sounded like tap-dancing shoes striking a smooth floor, only sharper and louder.
Angel's heart jolted, and he abruptly turned around.
He saw a tall figure walk in through the doorway, its entire body encased in bone armor. Even its pair of streamlined wings bore the sleek texture of bone. Step by step, it approached Angel.
As it drew nearer, a terrifying aura pressed down with it.
"Iyadase." Angel's pupils contracted slightly as the name flashed through his mind.
