Angel's words made Isabella think of her own mentor.
Karafi's nickname was "Soul Deathflame." Her personality suited that name well: she was cold and ruthless toward others, violent in her actions. Yet such a person was exceptionally gentle with souls.
Granting souls freedom was something Karafi often did.
"Having been shackled in life, they already suffered enough. At least after death, their souls should be given back a measure of freedom." Karafi often kept these words on her lips. They were somewhat similar to what Angel had said today.
Angel said quietly, "I don't know what kind of person Lady Karafi was, but my attitude toward a soul does not depend on the fact that it is a soul. It depends on who that soul is."
Isabella nodded. In this respect, Angel was more rational and rather similar to her own view—she judged according to her heart. Karafi, meanwhile, treated every soul alike.
"At least in one respect, you resemble my mentor." Isabella paused. "For that reason alone, how could I refuse?"
Isabella readily agreed to Angel's request.
Angel smiled. He had expected Isabella to nod. After all, in this transaction, if Sparrow Sparrow chose to remain at Black Castle, Isabella would not actually lose anything. Isabella had always been quite indulgent toward Sparrow Sparrow, as could be seen from the fact that Sparrow Sparrow could freely approach Natasha.
Angel had also learned of Isabella's attitude toward Sparrow Sparrow from Sparrow Sparrow herself. Yet he still made this request merely because he wanted one more layer of assurance.
Human nature was too complex to be painted with a single brush. No one knew whether Isabella's present gentleness toward Sparrow Sparrow was merely on the surface or came from within.
