The crimson mist spread layer upon layer, vast and majestic, stretching beyond sight.
While everyone was still speculating about what exactly constituted the red mist, a black shadow suddenly emerged from it.
It was the head of a griffin. At first glance, it looked very similar to Toby's form, but its gaze was cold and sharp, carrying the arrogant air of one looking down upon all living things from on high.
Before long, another black shadow surfaced from the red mist. At first, Angel thought it would be the griffin's body, but it was not. The griffin had revealed only its head; its body remained hidden within the red mist, with only a faint outline visible.
Since it was not the griffin's outline, then what was this new black shadow? With that question in mind, Angel observed carefully. Soon, the shadow began to reveal its true nature.
The head of a python emerged from the other side. Its crimson fleshy tumors resembled a crown, and its blood-red vertical pupils held a mocking scorn for the world. Though it was somewhat smaller than the griffin's head, the impact it gave was no less powerful.
"The crimson mist should be the anomalous sign this time." Gloria paused. "However, the illusion of a griffin's head has appeared in the red mist, along with the illusion of a Snakebird's head. So, is this anomalous sign displaying Toby's two forms?"
The anomalous sign when Angel had advanced before had been that cluster of proliferating doors in the void. This time, was Toby's omen simply displaying his forms within the blood mist?
As Gloria puzzled over this, Angel pondered, "What I'm more curious about is why only their heads have been revealed."
