When Hailey sensed that something was wrong, a corner had already chipped away from her mental defenses. Like a breached dike, negative emotions came surging in, roiling without end.
Fortunately, Hailey had noticed early enough and could still suppress them with all her strength. Even so, fully mending that emotional breach would likely take a long time.
Hailey forced herself not to stir up any Delusions. She knew that this Demonic Beast was not merely tough-skinned and resilient—it could also manipulate people's emotions. She had to face it with caution.
While Hailey struggled inwardly, Toby had no intention of stopping. It directly manipulated the Gravity Veins, stretching them like a slingshot. Caught off guard, Hailey was launched away by the tremendous force.
Then Toby turned its gaze toward the others... but as it looked around, it discovered something that displeased it.
Where were they?!
The surroundings were empty, with only an unclosed rift remaining. Clearly, while it had focused its attention on Hailey, the remaining black-robed people had all fled! The open spatial rift was like a mocking smile, leaving Toby thoroughly annoyed.
It rolled its body about and threw a tantrum for quite a while before grudgingly accepting its fate. It could hardly tear open the rift and give chase.
Toby was not stupid. It knew all too well what lay beyond a spatial rift. Causing havoc in Sky Mechanical City—even if Angel could cover for it, Toby itself would not want to do so.
It did not want to be so impulsive anymore. Back then, at the auction in Dusk Deep Well, its impulsiveness had nearly gotten Angel killed there. From that day onward, Toby's mindset had begun to change. It had worked so hard to improve itself because it wanted to become Angel's support, not his burden.
