"Snow?" After flying out of the underground chasm, Angel saw white frost drifting down from the sky.
Looking around, he saw that the earth had indeed been covered in a layer of silver.
"I hate snowy days. Especially snow without sunlight." The Tree Spirit spoke as he raised his head toward the sky, hidden beneath thick clouds.
The Tree Spirit's figure was somewhat illusory; clearly, this was not his true body.
After the Tree Spirit finished speaking, Angel gave no response for a long while. Puzzled, the Tree Spirit turned back, only to find that Angel had not been listening to him at all, but was staring into the distance.
Following Angel's gaze, the Tree Spirit saw a line of ant-like black dots slowly moving along the edge of the vast snowy plain.
They were humans—ordinary mortals. There were around two or three hundred of them. Everyone was wrapped in thick clothing, their faces frozen red, their hair and brows covered in white threads of ice. Yet no one dared stop; they could only keep trudging onward.
"Huh? I can't believe there are still refugees from the Eternal Night Kingdom around now." The Tree Spirit clicked his tongue twice.
"They're refugees from the Eternal Night Kingdom?"
The Tree Spirit nodded. "That's right. You can tell from their style of dress. But as I recall, the Eternal Night Kingdom's refugees had mostly fled by the beginning of the year. Why are there still some now?"
"Perhaps they weren't among the first batch of refugees." Though they were far away, Angel could clearly see that some of the refugees wore fur cloaks made from animal pelts. These pelts mostly came from beasts commonly found on the Pamiji Plateau.
The pelts still bore obvious mottled marks, indicating that they had been treated with
