After appraising them with the Eye of Nalda, Angel confirmed that the metal discs were indeed alchemical creations, made of Death Phosphorus Ore.

The defining trait of Death Phosphorus Ore was that the moment it sensed the aura of a living person, it emitted a phosphorescent glow like ghostly fire.
