Because Angel had been suspicious of this mushroom growing on the lava islet from the very beginning, he continued observing its emotional fluctuations even as he dodged the tentacles' attacks.
From beginning to end, the signals it released were essentially all violence, hatred, and shrill wails.
"It hurts, I'm in such pain... It's all your fault. I'm going to kill you, kill all of you... You all deserve to die! Hahahahaha, you all deserve to die!"
After these emotions had repeated themselves back and forth countless times, Angel was ready to withdraw his probe. Yet at one particular moment, it suddenly transmitted an exceedingly strange signal.
Angel discovered that when this signal appeared, the island mushroom emitted no emotion at all, as though it were merely an unconscious murmur.
That alone was strange enough. After Angel analyzed it, it became even stranger.
"Adelia?"
Perhaps to creatures of the Nightmare Realm, this was a meaningless signal. But to Angel, these symbols that seemed to have been muttered unconsciously represented a powerful witch renowned throughout the Southern Region.
Adelia, one of the Council of True Knowledge's resident councillors, known as the "Black Duke."
Angel did not believe this mushroom would call out the Black Duke witch's name for no reason. The only possibility was that this mushroom was, in some way, connected to Adelia.
With that line of reasoning, a conjecture he currently had no way to verify immediately surfaced in Angel's mind: perhaps the human imprisoned by Miying was hidden within this mushroom, and that human most likely knew Adelia!
Otherwise, it was difficult to explain why the mushroom would transmit signals related to Adelia.
Angel did not know why the mushroom was calling for Adelia—whether she was an enemy, a lover, or something else. But that was no longer important.
